Part 84: Doin' This (No Seriously)

Last time, we went to Quan's Dwelling to get the last Stellazio, but we kinda got sidetracked.

So yeah basically the way the story turns out, Scorpio hooks up with Virgo, the end.

Our reward is Cinna's Hammer. It adds an extra scene to the ending. I appreciate that FF9 rewards the player for doing the whole sidequest by giving them a little extra in the ending.

I dunno, maybe I missed something? Maybe I did the whole thing right, but this is the last set of items that Stiltzkin sold to me.

If you want to deck your entire party out in the Hawaiian equipment set, you'll be missing an Aloha T-Shirt from the Chocobo Treasure off the coast of the Desert Palace. This is where you get the eighth and final one; you can actually sell them for quite a lot, but with an infinite money trick built into the game, you shouldn't have to.

Anyway, Atla is still in Burmecia.

Mogryo is in the Black Mage Village.

I also take this opportunity to play some more cards against the Black Mages, some of which have some relatively rare prizes.

Mogryo asks us to deliver a letter to Kumool, who is in Ipsen's Castle. You can see here that they even made an alternate Misted pre-render for it.

Uhh

where was Mois again?

"Huge roots, buried under the ground, tore open cracks that Mist could escape through.
Morrid looked so peaceful, like he was only sleeping...
I'm so sad about losing him...
"

And so ends Morrid's story

This is why you can only complete the coffee sidequest during the card tournament: that's the only time that Mayor Kapu won't be in his house until the fourth disc (at which point he, too, is presumably dead). You can still get the Mayor's Key at this point, but there won't be anyone to give your coffee to.

The Iifa Tree roots have come up from the ground on the fourth disc, and block you out of certain places permanently. The list includes the Airship Observatory in Dali, Conde Petie and the Mountain Path, the Iifa Tree itself, Pinnacle Rocks, Oelivert, and Esto Gaza and Gulug Volcano. I don't count Fossil Roo or Desert Palace because you can't go back to them once you leave anyway.

"South Gate was destroyed by the giant roots.
So, he and I came to this village...
We were lucky. Eisha hired us on the spot!
"

"I had no job at the time, so I decided to help run the South Gate shop.
Now I can't imagine living without her.
I'm glad the Mist cleared. I'm with a wonderful woman because of it.
"

Well good for them. Fat dwarf chicks with simian overbites need love too, etc.

My journey to figure out where the fuck Mois is brings me back to Madain Sari.

Now let's go read the stuff on the Eidolon Wall.

"We repeated the mistake our ancestors made 500 years ago. We failed an attempted summon at the foot of the Iifa Tree. The area surrounding the tree was unaffected, but we sealed the area as they would've done 500 years ago."

Now that there's Mist on this continent, the Moogles are catching some scary-ass fish.

"So that's when I realized I've been so selfish all my life...
It's so wonderful living with moogles. I haven't thought about money once since I've been here.
I'm glad I lost our last fight.
"

Someone's illiterate

So after talking to Lani, you unlock the option of circling the Eidolon Wall clockwise, then counterclockwise, over and over nine times until you get this message.

I think it's supposed to restore you every time you do this?

"Memory shapes time. Time overlaps. The overlap becomes our memory. Memories construct time.
History repeats itself. We must stand in its flow and understand the world. Such is the goal of our tribe.
"

Doing this also reveals more passages on the wall.

"Makie, you are a treasure born to a dying village. We are dying, and there is little we can do for you. We shall return to the stars with one wish in mind.
If legends are not born of eidolons, and eidolons but born out of legends, let us leave this place with one wish: If we can give birth to a legend, it shall create an eidolon that is friend and protector of humans.
"

And of course this one

"I have a mortal wound. I won't be able to wait for you very long. I regret being so unemotional for all these years. I'm writing down everything here in the hope that you'll read it someday."

is the most ubiquitous quote on this wall. It is, of course, a reference to Queen Jayne and Princess Sara of Coneria from FF1.

FUCK YOU YOU SHIT

So this one is kinda bullshit because there is never a Moogle here. Ever. Until right now.

Once you buy every artifact item in the auction and resell them to the various collectors in Treno, you will be able to purchase the Magical Fingertip.

What a ripoff.

"Will you give it to me!? I beg you!"

"My work was everything to me, and then one day, my wife died... That's when I moved here. I've lived here ever since.
Few years ago, I read a biography of a great craftsman named Gogo who was known for making dolls that looked like real people. Supposedly, the secret to his extraordinary skill was in his fingers.
So, I figured if I could get his fingers and combine them with my skills, I could make a doll that looked like my wife.
"

Ah. Well, that's a bit, uh,

"I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I now realize that I must accept who I am and how I have lived my life.
Please accept this as a token of my gratitude. I no longer need it.
"

"That thing... Oh, I know! Kupo! Kupo!
I want you to deliver a letter to Kupo!
"

•••

"You want to try some? How come you be a-needin' it?
You wanna be beautiful like me? Yer pullin' my leg, aren'tcha?
No? Well, I'll get my folks to send me some more. You can have this one.
"

No way, you're gonna fuckin' snort it or someshit I bet

"Received Protect Ring!"

FF9 Bucket List
Sidequests complete

And just to round everything out...

What? It's green? I don't even know anymore.

"If Kuja is also a Genome, I wonder how he felt when he manufactured us..."
