Part 55: More Interdimensional Asskicking

Chapter 51: More Interdimensional Asskicking

Omega is pretty easy to just walk around.

Anyway the next room is a library of sorts.

Not e'en the legendary weapons twelve were able to subdue these evil beasts. Inside the Rift the demons were interred; so should they stay until forever's end, their names to stay unspoken evermore.

I know the archaic speech is supposed to reflect that this book is 1,000 years old but the guys in Mirage and the sealed demons don't talk like that so I guess the writer of this is either writing in an even older tongue or just crazy.

When storing power for this magic, you become utterly defenseless for a moment... Casters, be wary.

The title uses magick but the text uses magic. Also this applies for all of one enemy so don't rely on it any.

No matter, I shall rid you of your pitiful lives! The instant you touched this book, you activated the dimensional switch!

BOSS FIGHT: APANDA

Apanda tries to be like Byblos (in fact, he's the only one of the 7 bosses here that is a palette swap) but fails because he doesn't scale his tricks to match yours.

For example, Firaga. It hits him for 7812.

He responds with a Drain that can barely crack 600 or a Toad that barely ever hits.

What a loser.

The dimensional switch thing merely means we've got more dungeon to explore. The next bit is a linear path full of ninjas and dragons. They both have like 7,000 HP so they take a while when it isn't a back-attack.

The dragons always drop Dragon Fangs, though.

The 6th section is the castle. I suppose this is supposed to be Tycoon Castle stuck in the Rift or something. The more important part is that there's plenty of asses to kick.

These guys have Enhancers as rare steals if you somehow need more than two.

A free pair of these is always appreciated.

It's locked. It's opened from the other side so it's a shortcut back. But it's always locked on this side.

Yay, more inventory clutter! Yeah, the rooms here are short and choppy.

Aw yeah, there's 8 guys in this room to kill, and I'm gonna kill every one of them!

Hell yeah we are.

Hell no it won't.

BOSS FIGHT: AZULMAGIA

If his name wasn't an indication...

Azulmagia is a blue mage.

He's capable of 'learning' some blue magic spells cast on him and is thus able to cast every Blue magic spell in the game.

However, as the important ones (Aeroga, White Wind, Mighty Guard, Lv5 Death, Lv3 Flare) are already in my possession...

He's simply a guy with a huge list of reflectable magic and no real damage source (as I won't cast one on him). Still, you have to admire the huge pile of coding that is Azulmagia.

He leaves behind the second save point.

The old men locked up are actually these guys. They have 6,000 HP but can cast Encircle. Encircle is a pain in the ass that erases a character. As in, they stop existing.

After losing all their HP, they transform!

Jura Aveises try to be Achaeoaveis2 but with the advent of Curaga, !Rapidfire, and strong nonelemental attacks, their 15,000 HP flies away in a flash without causing too much trouble.

They also lack Heavy typing so Odin can cut through them.

three of them guard these shoes. Like the other bits of Dancer gear, these increase the chance of Swords Dance.

The Rainbow Dress does the same thing.

Lenna's got a Reflect Ring and is floating. Just what we need to embarrass the next boss.

This eyeball inhabits the same cage as a young maiden so I guess he spends all his time leering at her.

BOSS FIGHT: CATASTROPHE

Catastrophe's primary method of attack is to cast Earth Shaker. Before that, he casts 100 G's to negate float. However, 100 G's is reflectable. As long as at least one character floats, he casts 100 G's to get rid of it, but he can never hit Lenna because Lenna has permanent Reflect. He'll never attack so I have to expend no effort in killing him.

Har har, sucks to be you.

As this is a video game all she does is give him a smooch.

She also leaves the door open so there's more castle to explore.

The rare steal from the blue samurai is the game's strongest katana by sheer power. However, it lacks the awesome initiative and critical rate of the Masamune.

Furies hold Wall Rings and Cursed Rings for stealing if you're so inclined. Death Claws cast Death Claw a lot.

The Man-Eater is... an interesting weapon. It has 88 power, increases all stats by 2, deals increased damage to human enemies, is only equipped by Dancers, and is a lance by damage formula, including doubled !Jump damage.

Whenever you try to go through the only door you haven't yet gone through, Burtz gets dragged to the throne and...

C'mere, I'll treat you right...

Not only is Burtz supergay now, but we've got a boss fight to deal with!

BOSS FIGHT: HALICARNASSUS

His first action is to chortle loudly, somehow turning the party into frogs. Krile has the Genji gloves which prevent froghood, so she's already bashing his face in while the rest of the party uses Maiden's Kisses to cure themselves.

Once the frogging is solved, Halicarnassus is easily dispatched, as he has no other tricks.

For those watching at home, the only bosses left are Twintania and Necrophobe.

And there's Twintania just outside!

BOSS FIGHT: TWINTANIA

Twintania is a bastard. He's got 50,000 HP, a list of powerful spells, and he reacts to magic with Mega Flare and physicals with Tidal Wave. Casting Ruby Light here stops the Mega Flares and Mind Blasts, while my 4 Coral Rings stop the Tidal Waves and Atomic Rays. Snowstorm and Wind Slash are still going to hurt but it's nothing White Wind can't deal with.

Normally those Tidal Waves would be hurting for that much.

He has weaknesses to holy and water, so Faris smacks the damage cap with a big ol' Holy.

He also has barely more magic than a Goblin. I think that's more a testament to how badass Tidal Wave is than anything, though.

Technically Twintania has a second form. It's his Gigaflare form where he loses his Heavy type (say hi Odin) and any phyiscal/magical defense. His normal form has the Tinkerbell as a rare drop. The Tinkerbell is an entirely worthless weapon and I don't care about getting 100% since I've missed the Genji Helmet already.

Here's the warp to the last section of the Void.
