Part 62: Treasure Central

Chapter 57: Treasure Central

Now that we have most of the Sealed Temple under our command...

...Let's backtrack to a door I totally found by accident!

The Ruined shrine is totally optional and the only treasure of any worth this way is still pretty worthless.

"Secret" passages and bad treasure. Yay.

The passages are actually secret if you've somehow got here without a Thief. If you've gone this far without Vigilance, you are stupid! Yes, I know it's insulting, but that's also the truth.

A part coming up requires Dash so a Thief is literally required anyway.

They combine a guy with Reflect with Fork Tower mages. It would be witty if Bahamut couldn't get by reflect and tearing a Flaremancer down in one !Rapidfire weren't so easy anyway.

Mastering Mimic gives !Mimic, the least valuable part of a Mimic.

24000 experience for nearly no effort. Mini Satanas are cool like that.

I eventually fall into one of these holes out of bravado and boredom.

I fall into the Hall of Doubt. I doubt there's anything worth my time.

There's some stupid gimmick at work here but I don't care to find out.

This is the caliber of loot here, after all. This staff does nothing special except increase magic by three. There's an item that nullifies all elemental damage and all I get is 3 magic.

Falling here sends Burtz to the Heart of Ronka, so, let's skitter to the path just beyond the Grand Aevis.

The treasure on the other side of the Gladius.

A bit further, and we enter another section of the Heart of Ronka. This one is called the Treasure Room. There's a lot of treasure.

Most of it is consumables, but the Sealed Temple has random encounters that can hit for 2,000. Free anything is good.

I forget the important treasure my first time through this mess. I get it before I need to have it, at least.

More "secret" passages! Yay!

If you see these fuckers, dualcast Bahamut or suffer. These guys can use debilitating statuses or just blow you to hell with huge Firagas. Good lord, I'm scared of the flowers here!

AWESOME!

It's not too much stronger than a Ragnarok, but it gives a vigor boost. Vigor boosts and more power are never bad.

Great, they bring these chains here, too.

I really don't like the Heart of Ronka. There's no boss who counters attacks with Gigaflare or anything.

The chains lead to the Warp Zone. That's what it's called. Really. Rather than going to World 4 we go to...

I really don't like the Heart of Ronka.

I just want the good treasure and to get out of here.

It's the only item that isn't a weapon that increases Attack. This has the effect of making the Chicken Knife even more abusrd.

I don't understand the point of anything anymore.

After a looooooooooong staircase...

Finally, Abyssal Falls! The really cool shit is accessed from here.

And it has an even looooooooooooooooooooooooooonger staircase. This is probably the longest staircase in the game.

After getting shit so often, I forget to take a picture of getting good loot.

Example: The Royal Crown. Krile is the only one who changes helmets anymore. It also increases Evasion despite being a helmet. Too bad the dangerous stuff is magic.

Hah! This message actually gives hope that the passageway will be cleared! It's a first!

A 5th Coral Ring, huh...

So, push this switch to block the waterfall so you can pass.

The thing is damned fast, though. You need Dash to get there, and some really good running skills. It takes about 2 seconds for the water to start falling again, so you have to dash ASAP. If you get an encounter, just give up and try again. Did I mention the random counter rate here is absurd?!

Past that waterfall is the Hall of Tranquility. No random encounters, a save point, Longinus, and the way to more bosses. It's all I could ask for!

I got hung up dancing in a bar in some backwater town. Sorry.

Oh, that asshole. Gotcha.

Well, I'm off to backtrack to the start of this whole dungeon!

It's stronger than a Dragon Lance, but it doesn't critical hit anything.

Fucking squirrels. They're fucking everywhere and Incisor is coded to ignore everything good and decent in the world.

I can't believe I nearly missed this beautiful thing.

It doesn't nullify any elements, only halves their damage. It's still an amazing accessory. It's also the first Holy and Wind resistance you'll get, and the only Earth resistance not tied to Float. There's also Fire, Ice, Lightning, Water, and Poison protection but there's plenty of things for those.

Before opening the door, equip everyone with some form of magical damage. !Time works fine 'cause Meteor is absurd.

How he's tied to some locked warp device is beyond me.

BOSS FIGHT: ARCHEODEMON

He opens with Drain Touch, a superior version of Drain.

He also has pretty big Flares and Holies.

Hit him with anything but magic...

And he casts Death.

On himself.

He's undead, though, so it's a full heal.

Mighty Guard and Hastega are in place. The situation is firmly under control.

On top of his reaction, he absorbs all elements. your already few attack options are reduced to Flare, Meteor, Bahamut, and Odin.

Meteor it is.

He starts charging at some point, but it doesn't change your offensive options at all. All it means is he'll start spamming Giga Flare and Mega Flare. Best to kill him quickly.

This Drain Touch indicates that he's going to his low HP scripting. Now he throws Meteor and Hurricane into the mix, and only charges for one turn before spewing Giga Flare.

He doesn't get a chance to do anything besides two Drain Touches and a Flare, though.

This ORB increases Fire, Ice, and Lightning damage. It also has auto...-poison. The Magus Rod does more and leaves the accessory slot open for elemental protection. The ORB goes into our SACK and never sees the light of DAY.

The way to the dude who is supposed to be the big boss of the area is open, though we haven't yet fought that robot or dragon.

NEXT TIME:

Fighting a LOT of robots.
