Part 13: Incursion - Battle

Chapter 7: Incursion Battle

This is the team we're taking. Almost everyone's equipment is standard, with Lissa hogging all the cool Staves.

Gaius gets the Soothing Sword to give him some power. Let's begin.

Smell that, men? The winds of fortune are blowing our way!

*Hierarch runs out*

Oh hey, Traitor McStabber

Did you not receive orders to take me into your protection?

I've orders to protect a man, true...but I see no man here!

...Only a pig! A rasher of traitorous bacon that sold out his own sovereign! And what do we do with little piggies, mmm?

Well, you...I mean, perhaps...You let them go free?

Oh, are you a chicken now? Bawk bawk! We've a whole barnyard inour midst!

Well, it don't matter what you are. The axe will fall just the same!

Eeeeeeeeeeek!

Good riddance. I bet he threw a rock at Emm, too.

Right! Now for the main event. By moon's end, they'll be erecting statues of me in the capital!

Ho there! Ylisseans! Give me the Fire Emblem and your wench of a ruler, and spare yourselves a gory end!

Phila, take Emmeryn to the rear of the column.

We'll fend off these blackguards!

First order of business is to pair-up Virion with Panne and camp on that Mountain to gain good defensive bonuses. The enemy range is set up so that the immediate Barbarian is the only foe that will attack Panne.

Sully pairs up with Lon'qu to give him some extra punch as he camps in the area where only that close Wyvern Rider can attack him.

Miriel gets Robin's support all ready as she stands in that twilight area between two melee characters to only attract the Archer. The rest of the team moves away from the danger zone.

Panne dodges the blow and counterkills the Barbarian with a support arrow from Virion.

Rebarbative fool!

Miriel takes a glancing blow before getting an overkill critical back at him.

How well will you die?

Lon'qu follows up with a similar act, dodging the axe and continuing his reputation as Lon'qu the Shiny Quarter Noise guy.

Four enemies rush straight at us, which ups the pressure to quickly take them out. The map is deceptive, because it's secretly a rush-kill ASAP type map with asshole reinforcements involved.

Chrom pairs with Sumia for the time being for the mobility.

Robin starts off the assault with a one-round kill on a Wyvern Rider.

Redeemed! I think. I'm keeping my eye on you.

I'll make this quick.

Lon'qu pulls off my least favorite situation, the critical on a 2nd attack that would've killed anyway.

Panne attacks the Thief with hope that it weakens enough for a Javelin from Donny, but Virion dashes my plans with a kill from the support.

Well, at least it got Panne a nice level. The Thief dropped a Steel Sword, too.

Chrom moves near the edge of the second group's range and equips himself with a Bronze Sword in hope of just weakening the enemy instead of killing it. Donny pairs with Gaius and they along with Lissa stay back from attack.

The Wyvern Rider chose death by electrocution and a little fireball to the face. Robin's Thunder broke, but she gained a Concoction in exchange.

*Suddenly, a unit appears*

Prince Chrom! Captain Phila! Beware! Enemy reinforcements to the rear! They'll be upon us soon!

Is that...Gods, Cordelia?!

Cordelia?

She's one of my knights. Young yet, but quite gifted.

But she was stationed on the border...Why...? Oh, gods! Could it mean...?

This is one of the many not-so-subtle ways of Awakening telling you that you'd better be careful (or in this case, move and kill to the right ASAP) because enemy reinforcements will appear soon. In this case, Cordelia warns us of reinforcements from her starting location, so be prepared for some surprise Wyvern Riders.

Cordelia is another Pegasus Knight, with excellent bases built to be much stronger than Sumia (I don't think she's going to gain Str the rest of the way...) She comes with a Steel Lance and the rank for it, so she already starts out as a flying death machine.

Lon'qu will hang around in the woods for its defensive bonuses. The rest of the team hangs around the edge while switching to their more mobile partners.

Lon'qu makes it quick with a first strike being a critical. In some other universe that might hurt if that Barbarian could hit.

Excellent.

Robin took a shot, but her high speed gets the easy kill back at him. She gets a free Steel Bow from the shocked corpse.

Hmm, a rare survivor of Shiny Quarter Noise.

Geez, so many enemies move at once. And keep in mind we still have those Wyvern Riders coming from behind at some point.

With no time to waste, Chrom wastes the Thief with his incredible Spd+Sumia's boost.

For gods' sake, stop saying that! I think he's gained like 1 Str whenever he says that. Anyways, we get a free Medium Bullion.

Lon'qu hops to another woods. Panne takes his previous place and takes out the Wyvern Rider there.

Robin moves a bit south to where only the upper Wyvern Rider can attack her, while Lissa heals her off. The rest wait on the edge.

Bah.

That's better. Virion's Str bonus gives Panne just enough juice to double the Barbarian exactly to 0.

The Archer probably has the highest chance of hitting Lon'qu...at 41%.

I guess if Robin takes 5 axes to the face, she kinda qualifies as a tank...? Maybe?

Lonny, please just murder lots of Plegians to make me feel better.

HEY LOOK, A GOOD LEVEL. HMM.

Thank you for this gift, Basilio.

So uh, at some point I didn't realize my recording was off and didn't notice until a turn later. That's a big problem since that's when the enemy Wyvern reinforcements appeared. So the gap recording turned the map from

to

I killed the non-boss enemies on the right while placing my other guys in a formation where Lissa only gets hit once (and thus survive) from the surprise reinforcements.

Also, Lissa gained Str again because why the hell not.

Robin takes out another Wyvern out of the sky and helps gain Miriel a...goddamnit, Robin. You're starting to affect Miriel, too.

Virion takes out another and gains C rank Bows, letting him use that Steel Bow in the future.

Cordelia gets a couple swings in against the last mook rider...

And Gaius finises him off.

My dream? To master the sword. ...Now leave me be!

Well, that increase their relationship...somehow.

Even now, my brothers storm across your precious border...Go on, dear exalted coward! Run! Flee while they slaughter your subjects! Save yourself...Let their faith in you...bleed away...with the rest...

Chro, next time aim straight for the throat first so they don't talk anymore.

*after the battle*

...They're gone.

More Plegians are coming, not a half day's march behind you!

Cordelia, what are you doing here? ...Tell me the border remains secure!

That I could, milady! But it would be false...Gangrel himself led his might against us! The end was upon us when my knight-sisters begged me fly and warn the exalt...I should have stayed...I should have stayed! Ah, gods, I can still hear the screams...

Peace, Cordelia. You did your duty.

The sisters rightly prized your youth. You've many years yet to keep their legacy alive.

But I abandoned them! I'm weak...Their legacy deserves better.

Sometimes fleeing takes the most courage. They knew that. Now pull yourself together. Let the faith they showed in you give you strength.

Captain Phila, I...How can I go on like this? They were my...my family *sob* Gods... Oh, gods...

Damn those monsters!

Music: Dry your tears, love. This is not good-bye

Your Grace, I cannot advise-

I should never have left. If it's discovered I'm way when this news comes to light...The people could panic. Riot. More Ylisseans could needlessly die.

Here, Chrom. I entrust this to you.

Take it to Ferox-to safety.

And leave you? No, Emm.

No part of House Ylisse matters more than the Emblem. It possess tremendous power. But too much blood has been shed over it already. I hope it finds a better guardian in you than it did me.

Emm, come on. You can't...Don't talk like that! You sound like you're ready to give up...

I am not giving up, Chrom. I am only giving what I can.

Emm, please! This is madness!

Sis, wait! Let me go with you!

This isn't fair! It's not fair! I know our people need you, what we need you, too!

Dry your tears, love. This is not good-bye.

Your Grace, the pegasus knights will accompany you to Ylisstol.

Very well, Phila. Thank you.

I will keep the prince and princess safe, Your Grace. You have my word.

I know you will, Frederick. Thank you.

This is my honor.

You will stay here with Chrom.

But, Captain-

I know your heart is heavy, but this is how it must be.

Your knight-sisters will be with you in spirit, wherever you go.

...May they give me strength.

As you command, Captain. I will pray for your safety.

Come, Phila. We must go.

Chrom, you don't-

Walking to your own death will not bring peace to anyone! Ylisse needs you. WE need you! Be selfish for once in your life!

......

I love you, Chrom. Both you and Lissa are my everything. As for the peace I seek...

You cannot see who it is for. I have to go. I'm sorry-I truly am. Let us embrace again in Ylisstol when you arrive with Feroxi reinforcements. I know you will come.

...This is a terrible plan.

The blood of the first exalt flows strong in us. You and I will keep Ylisse safe. I believe it with all my heart. Safe journey, Chrom. Safe journey, Lissa.

Cordelia is an unusual Pegasus Knight, being much more of a tank than Sumia with a decent Def growth. Her high Str base along with great Str growth makes Cordelia a better flying death machine unless you got lucky with Sumia.

Official Bio: An Ylissean Pegasus Knight who has been friends with Sumia since childhood. Her beauty, skill, and record are surpassed by few, but she cannot seem to win Chrom's heart. The deepest, most frequent sigher.
