Part 46: The Sword or the Knee - Battle

Chapter 20 Battle

Severa joins the team with an Armorslayer in hand to get a lot of easy kill on the multiple Generals on the map. Otherwise, it's the usual crew with Donny coming back after a short hiatus.

It doesn't seem like he's thinking about escape.

And his soldiers... They look ready to die before they'd surrender. One must admire their loyalty, at least.

He does inspire that in people. It's part of what makes him so dangerous.

He inspires that in SOME people.

Yes, in some. But not me.

Morgan gets the invasion party rolling by eliminating a western General and gaining a meh level.

Tiki and Yarne work together to take down the other General. Yarne learns B rank bows after the battle.

Owain and Tiki await the enemies up the corridor while Chrom has a Steel Lance in hand for half of the middle enemies.

Lucina joins with her mother as she starts working on the destruction of the eastern General wall.

Henry softens up the other General for Severa to clean up with a critical bash.

I guess I should ask for luck at this point.

Donny ends the turn to take on the eastern corridor enemies with a Short Axe.

Chrom counterkills a Hero that crossed him to gain some nice stats.

Owain gives a helping arrow to the face to let Tiki gain a level of every stat except defense.

Most of the western corridors are wiped out by the Assassin and Dragon.

Donny takes on a trio of enemies by himself, taking out a Sage for his bout.

Donny back right where he was.

Henry and Donny get the new turn started with some blood.

I wanted luck, but not at the expense of everything else

Brady has some insane magic going on. 19 strength and 28 magic? That would put him on the bar for one of the best. Too bad about that lack of Axes unless we come across another Arms Scroll.

Morgan is some magician to make flowers appear out of flames.

Yarne picks off a General after Tiki wrecks some of its armor.

Cynthia flies and spears a Sage in its dumb head, followed by Anna healing Morgan for a level-up.

Chrom damages a Hero and Aethers a Sage from the middle group.

Donny continues his one-man path of destruction with two more Sages added to his tally.

Cynthia finishing off Chrom's latest foe gives her some needed strength among other things.

Chrom and Yarne work together on taking out another Sage. This place really needs some enemy varieties, but I guess we killed all the Dark Knights or something.

On the other hand, this is the bad kind of variety. The last thing you need is more skill, Yarne.

Tiki continues to be the bait for the middle group of enemies, healing herself with an Elixir for preparation.

That's better.

Not so great. What is that, come on.

Donny ends the turn by sword-slapping a Sniper to death.

Tiki counterattacks the lone General for decent damage. While all this fighting is going on, a Thief runs up and opens the door to the northeastern chest.

Yarne snipes a General to clear a path for Tiki to continue her job as the bear-trap...or dragon trap. Lots of things will be near death next turn.

Cynthia Rescues Olivia for some movement hijinks and gains D rank Staves.

Like a flimsy belt around the waist of defeat, you shall buckle here!

I...am finished... Nngh... But I have no regrets... I die in the shadow of...greatness...

Somehow appropriate that Severa would be the one to shave off that mustache forever. Cervantes drops a Dracoshield.

The Thief loots a Spirit Dust from the right eastern chest, but he's about two turns away from escaping so it isn't a big deal.

Come, then. COME AT ME!

Well, that was...anti-climatic.

Bolganone is a 12 Mt, B rank tome with 25 uses.

If Say'ri fights Excellus

...You. ...YOU! You and Yen'fay cost me EVERYTHING!

I only pray my brother is watching... Yen'fay, guide my hand!

Tiki kills half of that screen of enemies with no damage taken herself. Her growths are certainly similar to that of a divine being...who's not Donny, of course.

Reinforcements will arrive at the bottom of the map in a couple of turns.

Brady is becoming the first true War Monk on the team with impressive attack power and good enough defenses to stand multiple bouts. I might throw him into a mob next mission if there's another healer voted in.

Henry crits on the killing blow instead of the first blow Always hate that.

Yarne snipes a War Monk and gets his Physic Staff afterward. The rest of the western team form up to weaken the rest of the remaining starting enemies.

Morgan and Tiki weaken the enemy group, ripe for a solid counter-assault.

3 damage?!

Hit Rate+20 I find is a dumb skill. By the time you get it, your units won't have a problem hitting things especially as a bow user. Hit+20 is replaced by Skill+2 because really now.

Chrom, via Olivia, and Cynthia get their spears a new coat of paint off that Sniper.

Cordelia gets rock'in with her own Armorslayer to take down the General blocking Henry's path.

Stronger than Severa of course, but the rest of the stats might go to her daughter's advantage if she promotes.

It's a bit ironic that Robin sees more combat when she's automatically in a mission instead of being voted in. I guess I'm holding a sub-conscious grudge for all those E rank sword characters?

Anyways, here's Henry smashing a Thief into pieces and gaining the stolen Spirit Dust.

13 more enemies pop-up for reinforcement, but for Donny it's just another rep for his axe arm.

The eastern team sets up to intercept their side of the reinforcements, while Anna loots a Second Seal.

Tiki is still indestructible.

The boys get the dangerous enemies out of the way since the melee weapons don't pose as much a threat on Cordy and company.

Like so.

Brady Rescues Robin to get her out of range of a Rexcaliber Sage. Robin's a lousy tipper, though.

Unlike Swordmasters/Myrmidons that hold the Levin Sword in front of them like a cross, Assassins/Tricksters use them like they're cheering at a race. Owain is just really excited for death, like his father.

Tiki chips away at an enemy, while Chrom Aethers the Warrior next to him for victory.

Cynthia finishes the General off as Anna loots a Dragonstone+ from the other western chest.

Olivia dances for Yarne to end the turn.

Cordelia manages one counterkill while the rest became cowards and attacked her with pathetic "range" attacks.

Yarne finishes off the last reinforcements on the western side. Meanwhile, I'm contemplating on sending Cynthia on a journey to gain some strength. Or even magic, I'll take magic! (level via Rescue Staff).

A Physic heal gives Anna another level. She would actually make a nice Sage and she does support Tiki to boost her combat potential.

This is probably the longest I've gone without pairing most of the team. It's not like Henry needs it as long as he doubles people.

This is probably the lowest number of stats by Donny in a long while.

Cordy one-shots the General, then Brady goes ahead and transfers Severa to himself, taking out a Sage.

Owain takes out a Hero on a scouting run.

Severa then finishes off the other Sage, leaving just a couple mooks and Walhart himself to deal with.

Tiki chips out a Hero before getting Walhart's attention.

She still can't handle him, unfortunately.

Beaststone+ is +2 Str, +3 Skl, +3 Spd, +2 Lck, +3 Def, +2 Res stronger than a regular Beaststone. Too bad we have no such Taguels in our party, just a couple bunny warriors.

Oh good, defense. Because...he's bored?

Chrom gets backed up by a Rally Spectrum and Cynthia's support to double Walhart.

Prince...

Will you surrender?

Don't waste my time with questions you know the answers to, boy.

It did not have to be this way... You believed in mankind's strength... So did my sister. You believe that we are masters of our destinies... So do I. You could have joined with us.

Does a pegasus join with the flea on its back? A dragon, with a cow it eats?! You forget your place, BOY. I am the Conqueror! I will unite the world!

No! ...I will. And not by forcing all the people to choose the sword or the knee. Peace will only come by stoking people's hearts...not their fear.

You think that's what you've done? What your sister did before you? No, she shouted some nonsense and leapt off a rock! Such weakness!

Wrong. Not weakness—strength. That one act lives on, and WILL live on, longer than all your conquests...

And longer than you will... Come then, flea, and die for your peace!

Emm, I tried...

Hmm, not quite.

The Lobster's about to get...Flamingo'd

My conquest...ends here...

Luck and resistance to round up the level. Walhart drops a Large Bullion.

Walhart's soldiers have agreed to cease hostilities.

Finally... Then pull our men back immediately. ...It's strange, Frederick... Walhart and my sister were complete opposites. One gave her life to stop a war. The other took lives to create one. And yet they both inspired those around them; both walked a path to end all war. Both lived, and died, trying to unite the people.

Yes, Father, but as they say, the method is the message. Your father suffered from beliefs similar to Walhart, and his legacy is plain to see...

Mmm...these are matters too weighty for this moment. There will be plenty of time for reflection now that the war is done.

*Later*

But I recovered Vert, the Gemstone that was stolen from Chon'sin as a trophy.

You're giving it to me?

Of course, sir. It seems the fell dragon will soon threaten us all. I would feel safer knowing the Gemstone was in your hands.

Then so it will be. Thank you, Say'ri.

Our business in Valm is finished, but we have another task ahead. One perhaps even more dire than we faced here...
