Part 54: Awakening - Battle

Chapter 24 Battle

Brady is back! It's been kinda annoying not having reliable healing for the past few missions, I'll say that.

Their power must be linked to Grima's.

We must destroy them!

Vaike gets some father-son bonding with Gerome in the quest for A rank, taking down a Great Knight after Morgan using Rally Spectrum.

Good start so far.

The rest of the team will hang around to bait out a couple Risen.

Flavia and Owain get the first visitors to their deathdom. The latter uses Astra with his weak-fu Wind tome, which really does nothing except make Henry wait to get his kill.

Chrom's lack of doubling speed doesn't stop him from popping off an Aether to get the counterkill.

Nah sets up the volley for Chrom to spike a Risen to death. I think that's how it works. Well, he gets an Elixir from it anyway.

Flavia hits all the right notes after finishing off her target.

Gerome takes out the only real threat to him in the area, while Noire rides for an easy kill.

Yay, more speed....

Morgan transfers his mother for a speed boost to kill off the Valkyrie, which are surprisingly one of the tougher enemies to crack.

Might as well be an empty level.

This was originally supposed to be a plan to get Inigo a level, but he didn't have enough strength to actually kill the Wyvern Lord. Awkward.

Not much happens on the enemy phase besides Owain yet again slowly killing something with Astra. The Risen drops a Tomohawk afterward.

Yarne snipes a Valkyrie and retrieves its Thoron. Henry wants some first-hand blood on his hands since his last batch ran out.

Inigo should thank every night for Lucina's Dual Attack working, giving him...well, that's not going to help get him more levels.

Block out the sun! Or would the sun be better to shine on Risen? (Basilio's target drops a Spear)

Somehow Gerome has become faster than Yarne. By a couple points, even.

Brady Rescues Gerome out of danger and gains some more healing power.

Three reinforcements appear from the right half of the mission forts, luckily they spawn far away from our troops.

Nah weakens a Great Knight to gain effectively 3 stat gains. She's capped 3 stats (not counting HP which she just filled), so this is still a great level.

Henry takes a decent blow, but that only fuels him to kill him harder.

That's 30 speed for Henry, though it's not like Owain needed that extra point of support speed.

Wow, Nah can almost one-hit kill Valkyries. I think she actually can with a Dragonstone+.

He gains strength when he uses magic, he gains magic when he kills with a sword. Maybe I should just give him the Levin Sword next level.

I'm might be that desperate to take it because I can't take another empty level.

So much purple blood for the purple god.

Well that's lazy. The reinforcements are from the same spot with basically the same enemies.

Did you somehow miss strength twice??

Dum-de-dum-de-do, as Noire would hum to herself. I'm not going to show Owain massively weakening Inigo's target to make him feel better.

Oh whoops.

Yarne's gamble for Lucina to trigger a Dual Strike failed miserably.

Gerome has to be the big brother for this situation.

You missed strength 3 times?! 76 percent, man!

Brady bails out Inigo from danger and Robin ends the turn by Rally Spectruming Noire.

Well, that's a bit troubling.

I am for once so glad that there's all this forest because Yarne was going to die otherwise.

Gerome gets the only other counterkill going, then the boss Risen and his mooks go on the move.

Owain takes out another Wyvern Lord with his wind tome, while Basilio softens up his target for...

Rally Spectrum Inigo to gain not-strength At least he learns B rank swords to wield some Silver to up his killing power.

Noire borrows Lucy for some extra oomph to her arrows, and a Dual Attack certainly helps as well.

...I'm going to blame this run of no-strength on Vaike. Somehow.

Speaking of him, he takes part in the destruction of 2 Risens.

Jeez, finally we're back on track. Gerome also gets B rank axes.

Oh jeez, still more enemies. 5 more reinforcements arrive everywhere (would've been 6 but Morgan's horse butt's blocking a fort).

Brady shows off his huge magic stat with a basic wind tome, obliterating an attacking Wyvern Lord. Chrom gains B lances in the process.

Brady heals Yarne after the beatdown from the reinforcements and learns Rally Magic.

Owain and Noire start eliminating the last of the Risen reinforcements.

40 Skill is pretty cool, could've fooled me considering he was activating Astra every single battle.

That just leaves the Risen Chief and his two mooks.

As Nah usually says, "Wow, you're terrible!

Nah counterkills a mook on her way to cap every stat.

Basilio is totally going to cast some magic on fools. I still got that Bolt Axe lying around...

Just a nice horseback ride between father and son.

The Risen leader drops a Medium Bullion.

*The Shepherds enter the alter*

Be careful, Chrom...

We must believe in him, Aunt Lissa.

In the name of the exalted blood, I ask for the divine dragon's power! Baptize me in fire, that I may become your true son!

Father!

I'm... I'm all right!

Your heart has been tested and deemed worthy. Cleansed in my fire, your desire has proven to burn the stronger.

Then you will grant me the power to defeat Grima? ...The power of a god?

Yes. But know this: I am no god.

But milady, you are the divine dragon!

So do sons of man name me. But I am no creator. I possess not the powers of making or unmaking. And neither does Grima. Neither of us bears the power to destroy the other utterly.

Then what power can you grant me?

With my blessing, thou may draw forth Falchion's true might. The blade of the exalts s hall again strike like the dragon's fang.

Your strength will then be my equal.

But not strong enough to destroy Grima?

Alas, Grima cannot be slain. Sleep alone can be your victory. Just as your ancestor put the fell dragon to sleep a millennium ago. But you must weaken him first. Only as the final can my power be used to bind his.

Isn't there ANY way to destroy him for good?

There is, perchance, a power that could end Grima. However...

...He has to kill himself?

Yes. And never would he do so of his own volition. He seeks only to add to his power, and set ruin upon the world. Now come. There is little time...

Where is Grima now?

To the west lies a volcano known as Origin Peak.

You shall find the fell dragon there.

Chrom gets his sword upgraded to the Exalted Falchion: 15 Mt, heals 20 HP if used as an item, and is now effective against Fell Dragons (so basically Grima). It is the 2nd most powerful sword in terms of Mt, so Chrom can stop breaking those Silver Swords I give him.
