Part 94: Shop! Shop! Shop!

Shop! Shop! Shop!

Beating Chapter 3 unlocks Shops for every location we've been to before. All the prices for the same items are the same, so if two places have Iron Sword, it will still cost the same.

The bottom screen lists what each location sells and their prices. If a Skirmish (Risen icon) or Bonus Box character is on the node, you can't access the shop until the Risen disappear over time or you dismiss/recruit the character.

Let's shop at Southtown, where the Prologue took place.

Music: I carry only the finest

Buying lets you put the items in a character's inventory or the convoy. There's technically a limit to how many items you can have in the convoy, but it's so large you'll normally never hit it. Chrom during battle is the Convoy, so he essentially has unlimited inventory space and others can get items from him like a trade.

Sell is selling stuff. Also, everyone has a Buy/Sell quote:

What do you think I need, Robin?/Robin...Are we strapped for funds?
Hmm, what to buy.../Hmm, what to sell...
I love shopping! Oh...for me?! Thanks!/Hey, Robin, which will fetch the most gold?
You are buying me something? How thoughtful./My possessions are Ylisse's possessions.
Sell me true love, and I would pay any price./What?! Are we truly so impoverished?
For me? Hot damn!/Hell, take it. I don't need any of this crap.
You need Teach to walk you through shopping basics?/Anything the Vaike touched should fetch a good price!
I wonder if they sell hair-brushes...No, seriously./Wait...My stuff is actually worth something?
Oh no! You're spending our gold and it's all my fault.../I wish I had more valuable things to offer...
I doubt I need anything of significance. You know me./Go ahead. Sell my life. I'll be over here.
Would a modicum of frugality hurt now and then?/A scholar once said: if you thirst for gold, liquidize.

Now the reason why we're at Southtown is to forge a cheap weapon. After purchasing a Bronze Lance, we go to the Forge option.

Forging lets you increase a weapons Mt, hit, and/or Crit, and rename the weapon. You can only upgrade a total of 8 times per weapon.

The cost to forge is also scaled to the weapon's stats. 20 Mt weapon would be nice....

But we're here for a shiny new forged Bronze Lance.

Why? Oh, no reason.

The inventory screen lets us switch out weapons between characters and the convoy. Store All puts all items into the convoy. Optimize puts the best possible weapons on the characters. Restock "replenishes" weapon durability with the same one from the inventory.

We're going to restock a Bronze Sword as an example.

You see how it went back to 50 while the one in the inventory went down to 35? Restock takes the lowest durability left in the inventory to add to the equipped weapon. Very useful if you have a bunch of weapons with 3 or less uses left and you want to clear up the clutter.

Restock also works on Forged weapons if they have the same forged stats and name. So Pitchfork cannot restock another Pitchfork if it's a sword or it only has 4 forged Mt.

The other shops available to us right now.

Wind Tomes are really weak at 1 Mt, but they're effective against fliers like Wyverns and Pegasus Knights.

Strength and Defense Tonic are one-mission boosts for the described stats. They're really good, but I never needed them and money's kinda tight after buying the Pitchfork.

Reeking Boxes summon Risen skirmishes, use these if you want to grind (although it's usually better to just summon Spotpass characters since it's free).

Well, looks like I idled too much and an Anna appeared. Anna's appear like Risen skirmishes and gradually appear disappear in real time. They add 3 additional items, ranging from regular weapons to stat boosters. Sometimes these items are sold at a discount, giving incentive to visit her.

Can't say no to bargain shopping! We'll buy the Iron Sword. And that's all for the basics of shopping and managing items.
