Front Mission 3

Part 23: Mission #22: The Real Senor Goodtimes

Anyone who's been desperately waiting to submit a wanzer design, good news! It turns out that the newest designs are only going to be able to make it four missions before they're replaced. I'd carry the current designs over, but there are some kind of important upgrades...

Also, I figure anything that lets you guys have your say is a good thing. So, there's that. I'll hold off on the next round of building until I at least introduce the next class of wanzers, though.

Now, then, where were we...

Mission #22: The Real Senor Goodtimes

Into the mountain...

: We are still loading.
: Load it onto an attack plane. Tell them to head for Batangas.
: We're not using a transport?
: I don't care. Take the safety off and have it ready to activate.
: But we'll need the GHQ's permission to use it.
: I'll take full responsibility. As it is, the rebels will conquer Batangas and invade Manila. We can't let them take over this country!
So...uh...we're in deep shit, aren't we?
: Yes, sir!
: Call Jose! Have him guard MIDAS!
Not Jose! Nothing good has ever come from anyone named Jose! It's an evil name, like Bonecrusher, or Knife, or Kyle.

: ...This must be the research facility.

: !
: Oh no! We've got enemies! Hurry up and move it.
: Please, don't move, or I'll fire!

Two enemy wanzers? That's two more than I trust The Yellow Submission to handle! Well, Lotish, you've already heard my comments about your wanzer construction skills...let us see what the game has to say, shall we?
: Ah!?
: We've got it here. Hurry up and move MIDAS out!
: No, you can't! Wait!
: Don't even!

...and down goes Alisa.

And here comes a couple members of Purple Haze, I hope they aren't mad that we just tried to ice there teammates.
: More bandits!?

And one of the Purple Haze wanzers, unarmed, mind you, takes down the OCU wanzers. I guess Alisa just sucks that bad.
: Helping the rebels... What are you thinking? There's no time to waste! Go after MIDAS!

: Hold on! ...Are you all right?
: You're the USN agent from Yokosuka. Why did you help!?
: Alisa, what are you doing here? You have nothing to do with MIDAS. Get away from here.
: How do you know my name...? Who are you!?
: ...Alisa, don't you recognize me?
Um...you're both in wanzers, so...unless you had an especially memorable wanzer, I don't see why Alisa would. Still, I'm glad that we're about to get this whole thing sorted out, assuming that we aren't interrupted, at this exact moment, by someone so stupid and belligerent that he would...oh, who the fuck am I kidding, Kazuki, care to join us?

: !!
: Kazuki!
: We don't have time to dawdle! Let's go!
: Alisa, forget you ever saw MIDAS! It's for the best!
And the two USN wanzers flee. I'm really glad Kazuki showed up to save Alisa from actually finding out what the hell is going on.

: Kazuki, stop!
: Alisa?
: She helped me.
: Helped? You!?
The concept of a non-family member assisting or taking to Alisa confuses and enrages Kazuki!
: Yes, I don't know why. She knew about me...
: We'll talk later. Did we find MIDAS?
: A soldier was moving a container out. It was probably MIDAS. I tried to stop it, but...
: It's not your fault.
Well, not stopping the OCU, not really her fault, but seeing as she helped create the bomb...it is kind of her fault.
: So they already moved it out...
: Let's go after it!
: Yeah, I just hope we're not too late...

Okay, guys, we can do this! We can stop MIDAS! Go team Kazuki!

....Fuck
: Where's MIDAS!?
A shot rings out
: Whoa!
: Freeze! I won't miss this time...
: !

Hey, it's Jose! The titular real Senor Goodtimes! Why do I call him that? Well, some day, you guys will have to choose whether or not you really want to find out. For the time being, it's enough to know that he's in my way.
: Where! Where did you take MIDAS!?
: I don't need to tell you. Surrender, and I'll guarantee your lives.
You know, that is, relatively speaking, a pretty good deal.
: I can't! MIDAS must be stopped!
: I don't want to have a fight. Give it up.
: Please! We don't want to either. Tell me where MIDAS is!
: I'm sorry, I can't do that.
: Then don't get in my way!
: Stop it! I don't want to have to kill you!
: Just shut up, dude! If you don't want to fight, step aside! We don't have time for this!!
: Fools... I guess I have no choice but to stop you. Even if I must kill all of you.
: Yeah, yeah, just bring it on!
No one's buying what Jose's selling.

I take Kazuki, Alisa, Miho, and Pham (and thus Pierre). In retrospect, I probably should have brought Ryogo.

Oh, great, Jose has a shield...and he know how to use it, meaning that it'd be good to have a burst weapon to wear him down...except I don't have one. Damn it.

I decide that Pham and Jose must fight in single combat to determine once and for all who wins in a contest of irresistible bitchiness against immovable emo. Science needs this answer!

Round one goes to Pham it appears. Besides Jose and his Jinyo, there are a couple of other generic Jinyos, a couple of helicopters and a couple of tanks.

You start out in a boxed in area with only a couple of exit points, and Jose occupies one of them. Then again, that doesn't mean shit to missile accuracy, so I'm content to generally let the enemy come to me.

Alisa has actually gotten pretty damn good at firing off missiles. Which would be great if one of you hadn't decided to put her in a melee wanzer a couple of missions from now. It turns out that letting the inmates run the asylum doesn't do much for efficiency.

The battle continues!

The Berzuki's quest for a third straight MVP comes to an abrupt end.

Pham wins. Fatality.

Alisa also gets destroyed. If you look at her HP, it was just kind of bad luck. Her body unit is the only part that is more than moderately damaged, but down she goes nonetheless.

Still, it's not that hard of a mission. Time to wrap things up.

Pussy. His gun arm was fine and yet he still surrendered? I ought to execute him for cowardice! But he was the last enemy, so I don't get the chance.

Zoom. Pham gets MVP.

: If MIDAS isn't here, there's no reason to stick around. This mission is a failure. We'll meet up with the fleet.
: Damn, and we came so far...
: No use brooding about it. We have to prepare for our next move.
: ...All right.
Come on, Liu, what's a jRPG without brooding?

Next Time: Kazuki and the terrible, horrible, very bad, no good, day.
