Mission #6: Police Cops

To the Exposition-Dome!

: I think so. We can't stay here long.
: What a bunch of stalkers.
: Emma, there's no time. Tell us what happened.
: I guess you could have the right to know. I work for the USN. I do research for the military. A device in development was stolen a while ago. I've been searching for it with FAI. Then, I heard about the explosion in Yokosuka.
: The accident is related to your device?
: That's all I can tell you for now.
: Did the JDF steal the device from the USN?
: ...
: You saw it. It's not normal. The JDF is hiding something.
: Yeah. They did try to kill us.
: Now Alisa is missing because of them!
: ...Alisa?
No, Emma being Alisa's sister isn't a spoiler, since the branches only diverge after Kazuki makes that choice in Okinawa, although I suppose it would be cool if our choices somehow affected the backstory of the game retroactively.
: Alisa is his sister. They're not really related, though.
I guess, but them getting together would still be pretty fucked up.
: Shut up!
: We don't even know if she's been hurt. Don't worry too much!
: But she was inside the base!
: Alisa's fine. She's smarter than you.
: ...
: Can't you ask your dad to do something?
: No. He'd never help me.
: Man, lighten up.
: He'd kill his family for the JDF. He might've been the culprit behind the accident.
Kazuki's anger towards his father makes a bit more sense in this branch, if only because Kazuki doesn't really have any evidence that his father isn't involved, and the party is being pursued by the JDF.
: Alright, fine.
: We need to get out of here. You can come with me, or escape on your own.
: Wait, you're leaving us!?
: We should go with you. Besides, I have more questions for Emma.
Question #1: Is she single? Question #2: Does she date Asian guys? Question #3: Is it morally permissible to date the biological sister of your adoptive sister?
: Yeah, I agree.
: Okay, then. Let's get out of Yokosuka.
: Where to?
: My party is waiting for me in Honmokufuto, Yokohama.
: Okay.
: Let's equip before we leave. We can set up the wanzers here.
: Kazuki, you suck at setting up. Get Emma to teach you. Hey, you want me to do it?
Ryogo was much more tolerable when Kazuki was a raging psychopath, as it is, Ryogo just comes off as an asshole.
: Shut up.
: I'll teach you whatever you don't know. Try setting up now.
There's a tutorial here, but I think we're a bit beyond that.

I don't know what a single word on this screen means.

Emma's brought out the angry face, this could be bad...

A police wanzer? Could that mean...? No, Miho is nowhere to be found in this branch, instead we get...Moneymaker....
: This isn't good... It's a police checkpoint.
: You think they're lookin' for us?
: Probably.
: I think we can break through with the transport.
: Let's try to avoid a fight. We're breaking through.
: You wanna make enemies with the police too? Isn't that uncool?
Ryogo, you exhaust me sometimes.
: !?

Choppers. Always the damn choppers.
: A JDF helicopter!?
: They found us.
: There are civilians! Why are they attacking!?
: We're gonna get wasted! Hurry it up!
: Let's go!
: If they mean business, they'll get the business end of my wanzer!
I...let's just move on.

This map is a bit trickier than it seems. The two police wanzers are Kyokeis, which you might remember as some of the worst in the entire game. They're not much of a threat. The helicopters, on the other hand, are a real problem. At this stage of the game, you don't have access to any movement upgrades, and the choppers will tend to wait in the hills on the far side of the map.

The obvious solution is to use Emma and her missiles to deal with them, albeit they have decent evasion, so it'll be a bit of a struggle.

Ah, the Kyokei, the Los Angeles Clippers of wanzers...they're really just filler.

Still, I don't have much else for Ryogo and Kazuki to kill at the moment.

Hah! Emma needs not her right arm to wreak havoc! Nothing can stop me now!

Yes, so long as Emma survive and Kazuki keeps hacking at the enemies, everything is looking pretty good.

This would be more impressive if Kyokeis weren't so powerfully terrible.

Oh...fuck. Okay, Emma's lost her arm, which is bad, seeing as the only other way I have of dealing with the helicopters is marching Ryogo and Kazuki across the entire map and up the hill. This could get messy.

Well, in theory at least.

I dismount Emma from her wanzer. As a practical matter, she's not going to be able to do any real damage to the helicopters, and it would be kind of insane to count of her force-ejecting an enemy pilot, but she makes good bait because missiles don't have a good chance of hitting her.

Oh, Kazuki...so close...so close...

It's down to Ryogo...wait, what happened to Emma?

Oh yeah, she got killed. Anyway, can Ryogo save our bacon?

He can! Kazuki's squad wins!

As always, the game is more concerned with competence than in drama.

: Seems like they intend to stop us, no matter what.
: But what do we do now? The trailer's toast.
: Guess we have to get another one.
Hey, trailers don't grow on trees...or maybe in the future they do. Some sort of trailer-tree. I can never think of much to say during these filler missions.
: We'll have to keep going with the wanzers until then.

Next Time: There's colors on the streets...red, white, and blue...
