Mission #28: Sunken Glory

Almost home free, by which I mean we're almost to the country whose government is harboring our enemy. So, I guess it's kind of the opposite of being home free, really.

A lovely view of the ocean, I don't know who exactly is supposed to appreciate the thing, seeing as anyone traveling by train or car isn't really going to...you know, it's fine, as long as it's not just there to justify an improbable fight scene, I don't really care.
: We've almost reached the exit.
: What's that!? It's pretty!
: It's an observation window. You can see the sea...

And suddenly the windows are broken by torpedoes...

Which release a new type of enemy wanzers. Now, you'd think flooding an underground tunnel would be a problem, but it never comes up again.
: They came in those torpedoes!
: Looks like we're not the only crazy ones out here.
: This is Griffith. We've found the target.
You might remember ol' Griff from last path's bloodbath in the zoo.
: Capture your target above all else. But if all else fails, destroy them. Those are Lukav's orders.
: Roger. All units, you know the drill.
: Yeah!

Against this unknown threat, Kazuki, Emma, Dennis and Jose are the party's only hope.

Qibing 0s, eh? As you might remember from the last build cycle, I end up capturing 2 of them...and there are only 4 to begin with. Anyway, they're a step up from the Yongsais we'd been fighting, with weapons a full tier higher than anything we have access to, and with better pilots to boot. The downside is that their combination of shotguns and fists make them vulnerable to long-range weaponry.

It turns out that all it took for Dennis to be useful was to find an enemy whose weaknesses exactly lined up with his strengths!

Griffith should probably be making a headlong charge at Dennis, but instead decides to blow up a guardrail. In fairness, safety railing killed his father.

And Jose continues his proud tradition of disappointment.

Emma presses her long-range advantage against Griffith before the AI wises up and actually tries to hurt her.

Kazuki does all he can in spite of the cursed wanzer given to him by an evil warlock.

Griffith decides that he might as well make a fight of it, and hammer punches Dennis in the clavicle.

Emma isn't in quite as much danger yet, but the tide is turning against the party as the Qibings are finally close enough to do real damage.

Dennis lasts exactly two punches. Not his proudest moment...actually, it might be, rifle wanzers don't have a ton of highlights.

Damn that warlock's curse!

Emma continues her solid mission of...crap, I'm going to have to give her the MVP, aren't I? Damn it.

Kazuki kills a wanzer with exactly 1 HP left in his body. I guess that's kind of impressive, but it does obscure the fact that had he been given any sort of reasonable body unit, he'd have a shitload more HP left.

Emma kills another Qibing, and the other two surrender in short order, meaning, for the second time in two paths, Griffith surrendered his wanzer to me. He may be the least threatening sub-boss in this game. Oh, and Emma took exactly one hit in this game...to her shield. Now that is impressive.

I would have gotten platinum if I hadn't tried to capture those two Qibings. Emma wins MVP.

: Were they special forces?
: These guys give me the creeps... It felt like I was fighting a machine.
Eh, machines don't have a 50% surrender rate. Well, most machines, at any rate.
: They fought just like Lukav...
: Dammit, Lukav's probably already in Da Han Zhong. Argh! He got away after all!
: Don't give up yet. We'll go to Da Han Zhong and pursue him.
: That's right smack in the middle of enemy territory!
: I have contacts there. Let's just think about getting there.

Next Time: A Fistful of Petro-Dollars!
