Introduction

Legend of Mana is quite an oddball little game. Released in 2000 (US) for the PlayStation, Legend of Mana enjoyed quite a lot of success as arguably one of the best looking games out there. Using 2D watercolor graphics, it wowed the masses and established a respectable place amongst its peers at the time (that being, pretty much, Final Fantasy VIII and Chrono Cross).

Now why, oh why do people shit on this game?

Well, for almost the exact same reason people shit on Final Fantasy X-2: A mostly unclear storyline supported by very nonlinear gameplay. Now you'll ask, how is it nonlinear?

Your main character gains the ability to shape the world of the game, Fa'Diel, through the use of Artifacts. Artifacts allow us to progress through the game's three main storylines (all of which can occur simultaneously).

I plan on showing off all of the game, all Quests and secrets, as much as I can remember and find.

However, your choices will determine the avatar I use (boy/girl), the weapon type I stick with, the pets I use, and the golems I use. So, in essence, you're determining the gameplay for me, and I'll be showing you the full story.

But aside from that, what makes this game good, at the very least? Well, it's fucking gorgeous. The music is stellar (Yoko Shimomura at her best), and the gameplay is kinda fun. But the nonlinear element of it along with the very disjointed story bring the game down as a whole.

I'll be enlisting the aid of SA goons Arthur D Wolfe and Tallgeese to show off a lot of different things in the game. Arthur has said he can help with translating the opening, showing off boss battle videos, as well as the weapons we decide not to use. Tallgeese, if we can get it working, has said he can help with the multiplayer aspect of the game (or at the very least, show it off), as well as help us show off a very odd quirk with the game's memory card feature.

However, I want to make this a fantastic LP (perhaps my best LP yet) by having all of you who have played the game pitch in and talk about the little details I may miss, since I have not played the game in a very long time. I'll include your extensive sperging in the LP index so we can truly feel like a group playing an admittedly mediocre game.

The changes are purely cosmetic, I assure you (aside from minor dialogue changes). Think Saiyuki: Journey West in actual difference.
