Chapter 2: Lackeys

Duh, no it's just some castle that survived time compression I'm sure Ultimecia doesn't live here. DUMBSHIT

Team Awesome and Team Fodder.

This place is pretty well furnished for a stone castle. As we enter some kind of magic forcefield takes away every ability we have except for walking around and attacking in battle. Yaaay!

Luckily, physical attacks are all a true gangsta needs. The party continues up the stairs to encounter the first of 8 bosses.

The Sphinxara. It's just like the Sphinx of legend, except that instead of answering it's riddle, we kick the shit out of it.

Take that, weird crappy boss.

Next up is the infamous painting puzzle. It's actually pretty easy to solve if you're sharp.

In the middle of the room there's a giant clock which doesn't move, rendering it immediately suspicious. The hour hand points to VIII, the minute hand to IIII, and the second hand to VI.

After examining the paintings one by one you learn each of their names.

Funny thing. All of them start with V, X or I...

The key here?

VIVIDARIUM - VIII
INTERVIGILIUM - IIII
VIATOR - VI

Success.

This is Trauma. He's pretty useless as well, so I just beat him to death with physical attacks. Simple enough. He summons two mini-Traumas to help him but they do about 500 damage per attack so I ignored them and killed him in a couple of rounds.

And this is where Ultimecia likes to chain people up for her own amusement. I don't know, doesn't sound like a total loss.

Taking the key releases...

...the Red Giant, who's basically an oversized Iron Giant.

Oh, OK, sorry dude, won't happen again.

...NOT. Hahaha, because it makes sense that a being made of titanium would be susceptible to the effects of gravity.

Next up is Tri-Point.

He's a real bastard if you don't have Thundaga on Elemental Defense, because he counters every move with an attack called Mega Spark which does between 1500 and 2500 damage to all party members.

I didn't have Thundaga on Elemental Defense and I beat the fuck out of him anyway. Physical attacks + Meltdown rocks.

BOOM SHAKALAKA

I felt like fighting one of the 'tougher' bosses so I paid a visit to the clock tower.

"JESUS CHRIST, guys, what the FUCK are we doing?"

Up here is Ultimecia's own GF, Tiamat, who is Bahamut, but EVILLER!

The idea is that he charges up a powerful attack known as Dark Flare which hits for 5000 damage on all characters. Of course, I didn't let him get up to Dark Fla before killing him.

After sheltering from another explosion, it's time to head back down to the castle. Five bosses down, five abilities regained.

On the balcony outside waits Krysta.

He counters each move with a powerful non-elemental beam attack, so maybe you're supposed to cast Protect or Shell or something. I didn't, I just hit him and hit him to see who'd die first.

Result: Krysta loses.

I knocked a key off a bridge earlier (my emulator doesn't have a 'walk' ability) So I have to go down to Ultimecia's dungeon to get it. Which is nice because it opens a door in said dungeon.

...one of the bosses is a Vysage. What? I beat the crap out of those things ages ago.

Yeah, this is easy.

WHAT

I'm not kidding. Once he came out of the ground he died in a singular physical attack.

We're 7 for 7. The eighth and final sub-boss is awakened by opening and shutting the coffins in this room.

This is Catoblepas.

...I dunno dude, I guess we're just gonna... hit you. Then you'll explode. Like everyone else in this stupid castle.

Yeah, here's no surprise. Dead in seconds.

And that's it. The eight bosses aside, there's only one thing left to do. On to Ultimecia!
