Chapter 15 - Learning to Live Without Color

Let's continue our exciting journey through the Building World. In case you forgot, we're in the middle of a mind-blowingly retarded fetch quest. This volleyball is the second item we need for it.

We won't return to the Hospital World, but luckily, the haunted wheelchairs have found their way into the Building World.

After some more stairs and alleys, we're back in the bar, where we find a note.

The boss said we had to change our phone number 'cause all of the complaints about the weird noises. Now we have to change the store sign on the roof. What a pain. By the way, the number is the last 4 digits of the new phone number. Not too
smart if you ask me...

They changed the code of the door, but we'll get it later on in this update.

Placing the ball on the pool table does...absolutely NOTHING. That's what's so amazingly idiotic about this fetch quest: We need to find four completely useless items and place them in a spot where you would expect to find such an item, all because the guy who wrote the note at the end of the previous update (probably Richard or Joseph, I don't give a shit) somehow remembered these incredibly trite and insignificant details and wants Henry fucking Townshend to restore these trivial objects to the way they were in THE GOOD OLD DAYS. I swear, this whole quest is so unbelievably lazy and uninspired that it's offensive.

Anyway, back to the apartment, where we notice another (rather tame) haunting, the cracks in the wall.

Of course, there's another note under my front door. Joseph continues his plot summary.

Continuing from yesterday, I'm going to summarize everything that I've learned about Walter Sullivan so far.

Naturally, it was a long way for a kid his age to travel, but he made the trip every week by subway or bus. Unfortunately, someone else was living in this apartment and so he couldn't be reunited with his mother (Room 302). For years, he continued to come here, almost like he was possessed, just to peek into the apartment. Eventually, the tenants began to complain and treat him badly when they saw him hanging around. Walter began to fear the tenants and see them as obstacles preventing him from seeing his mother.

As the years passed and Walter matured, he began to be more and more influenced by the teachings of the cult. Furthermore, his obsession with his mother and his feelings of resentment towards the other world became even deeper. Walter became preoccupied with one particular tract from the cult's "Bible." "The Descent of the Holy Mother -- The 21 Sacraments"

"By the 21 Sacraments, the Holy Mother shall appear in the countries of the world and shall bring salvation to the sinful ones."

After Walter left Wish House, he moved to Pleasant River, a town neighboring Silent Hill. For a while, he lived the life of a normal student, but he was still filled with bitterness and resentment towards the rest of the world. Several years later, he launched his plan there. The 21 murders...

July 29

Alright, back to the Building World for everyone's favorite passtime...backtracking! Yes, it's time to head all the way back to the elevator where we dumped Eileen.

: "Anything new?"
: "Nope."
: "Didn't die?"
: "Nope."
: "Still got the hots for the serial killer?"
: "Yep."
: "Alright, let's go."

: "How are you doing down there, Richard?!"
: "Rrrrrraaaaarrrrgggghhhh!"
: "I wonder if I can pee on him from up here..."

: "I saw your boyfriend, by the way."
: "He's not my boyfriend..."
: "Great."
: "...yet."
: "Great. "

You can find a lot of golf clubs in this level, though I don't know why you'd want to pick them up now that you've got the Axe and the Pickaxe.

The fucking retarded fetch quest requires me to throw the ball I found into the bin. Because whoever is dumb enough to remember four inane details will certainly care if there are six or seven balls in the bin. All the difference in the world, yes sir.

On the counter we find the next item for our quest.

Henry keeps all his stuffed animals in the fridge.

Dear person who wrote the note about this fetch quest: Your life is really fucking boring and you should kill yourself.

I take out my frustrations about the sheer idiocy of these puzzles on some innocent zombie dogs. I'm horrible like that.

We put the stuffed cat into the cage, and then we're finally done with this atrocious task.

I'd say there are two slightly more important matters right behind you, Henry.

According to the Ashfield police, on...at approximately 8:30 in the evening, witnesses near the pet store, Garland's, reported the sound of multiple gunshots, possibly from an automatic weapon. By the time the police arrived, the perpetrator had already fled and the shop owner, Steve Garland, was found dead with a probable gunshot wound to the head. All of the store's animals were brutally slaughtered and the store left in extreme disarray. In addition, inside sources say that Garland's heart had been removed, and on his back 5 numbers were carved...

After reading the article about Steve Garland's (the father of Lisa Garland, the nurse from Silent Hill 1) death, you can hear the sound of gunshots coming from the pet shop, and when you go back in, the whole place has been ravaged, with multiple bullet wounds in the walls.

Further down the path, we enter a room that has been turned up-side down, literally.

Here's the clock we heard earlier. You can't go through the door it's on until you've collected all four items and placed them in the right spot.

Here's a montage of me walking through the level, back towards the bar. The Building World is such a boring level.

No, I am doing pretty good, you just happen to be near me whenever I'm doing good.

Right, back to the apartment. The bartender's note mentioned that they have a new phone number, but the sign on the roof hasn't changed.

The solution is to call the old number.

"Thank you for calling the Bar Code hot-line, for all your questions regarding the security of bars and restaurants."

There's another ridiculously long staircase behind the door.

Finally, we arrive in this room, which is the scene for some sort of boss fight.

This is how it works: There are several panels along the walls, each one with a slightly larger version of the wall monster from the Subway World on it. These panels are raised and lowered from time to time, and when the panel's low enough, the wall monster on it can hit Henry and Eileen. You can hit the monsters, one charged hit from the axe will put a monster on a short time-out. There's a message on the door on the other side of the pit:

To reach the deepest part, you must defeat the One Truth. Do so and the door will open.

Only one of these wall monsters is real, we have to find him and kill him. How can you tell which one is real? Well, when you hit the real monster, all other monsters will react as well, as demonstrated by the video at the bottom of this update. So, we whack each monster until we find the real one, and then we kill it with a couple of axe swings.

We head through the door, into another mysterious, spiral staircase.

: "This door looks...familiar..."

I had that weird dream today. The one with the man with the long hair and coat. He was crying and looking for his mother again. I saw that man with the coat 10 years ago at this apartment. He was going up the stairs, carrying a heavy tool, and old-looking bowl and a bag that was dripping blood. I never saw him again after that.

But a few days later, the neighbors complained that they heard strange noises coming from the supposedly empty Room 302. So I took a look around Room 302 and found signs that someone had been in there, but nothing odd other than that. But that's when it all started. I still hear strange noises coming from the window of Room 302.

Sunderland

Frank Sunderland: Proudly acting out his role of the completely ineffectual bystander.

We go through the door, and for the first time in the game, we visit our apartment in the third person (and in the company of a female).

Well, actually, this place is called 'Room 302 Of The Past', so that's where we are right now. The past.

Looks like good old Joseph wasn't too fond of saturation either.

Symbolical baby book and religious brain-washing scripture, go!

There once was a baby and a mother who were connected by a magical cord. But one day the cord was cut, and the mother went to sleep. The baby was left all alone. But the baby made lots of friends at Wish House, and everyone was very nice to him. The baby was happy.

His friends told him how to wake up his mother. So the baby went right away to go and wake her up. But the mother wouldn't wake up. No matter how he tried, she wouldn't wake up. Because the one that he was trying to wake up was actually the Devil. The baby has been deceived.

Poor baby.

The baby cried and cried and cried. When he thought of the mother, he remembered the feelings of being connected to her through the magical cord. Just then, a ray of light came down from the sky. The light was very warm and made the baby feel good. When the baby looked into his hand, he saw that the magical cord was lying there. With the cord clutched in his hand, the baby went happily to sleep.

My mother read me this story once, but I thought the movie version was better.

Or "How To Rid Your Apartment Building Of Pesky Dieties"

She who is called the "Holy Mother" be not holy one whit. The "Descent of the Holy Mother" is naught but the Descent of the Devil. Those that be called the "21 Sacraments" be not sacramental one whit. The "21 Sacraments" be naught but the 21 Heresies.

To give birth to a world of wickedness within the blessed realm of our Lord be blasphemy and the work of the Devil. If thou would stop the Descent of the Devil, you must bury part of the Conjurer's mother's flesh within the Conjurer's true body. Thou must also pierce the Conjurer's flesh with the 8 spears of "Void", "Darkness", "Gloom", "Despair", "Temptation", "Source", "Watchfulness" and "Chaos." Do so and the Conjurer's unholy flesh will become that which once it was, by the grace of our Lord.

Hit it until it dies, got it.

In the bedroom, we find a typewriter and several red pages.

Seriously, what the hell is your problem, room? Do you have a problem with me, huh? Wanna take it outside? Oh, that's right, you can't.

The diary entry continues:

What's with this room?
It's covered in blood and rust...
This is my room...
But what the hell has happened to it...?
This room...
Is it really my room...?
It's in terrible shape...
The air is so heavy... My head hurts...
Creepy... It looks like a face.
What the hell am I writing...?

August 2 -Joseph

All these sentences, except for the last one, are comments made by Henry in the nightmare scene at the start of the game.

Dear diary, too weak to destroy apartment. Will write more later. Love, Joseph.

That's pretty cryptic, let me clear it up for you guys:

code:
if (bell.ringing == TRUE) { eileen = mother->body; goto blood; }

So it looks like we'll have to force-feed Walter an umbilical cord, and I'm totally fine with that.

Several minutes later, Henry is calmly staring at nothing at all, when suddenly...

He is attacked by The Man Without Textures (Also, He's Hanging Upside Down From The Ceiling)!

It's The Man Without Textures
Coming to save the day
Better lock up your textures
Or he'll take them all away

: "It's amazing that you've managed to get this far with all those textures weighing you down."

: "He is hung like a horse."
: "Score!"

: "Which is preposterous of course, since no woman wants to live with me, let alone live with me in her."

: "Well, the only way that didn't involve copious amounts of soap."

: "He died somewhere along the way, but who cares about the little details."

Nothing more than a regular old, dime-a-dozen inhumane killing machine.

: "There's one part that really wants to return to the bosom of his birth and one part that really REALLY wants to return to the bosom of his birth."

Did I mention that Joseph's voice is absolutely awesome? Especially when he starts telling me to kill Walt in a second, it's a truly magical experience. Check out the video.

: "Did you say w-w-w-work? "

: "Holy shit, that's my name."
: "Haha, your boyfriend wants to kill you. Eileen and Walter, sitting in a tree, K-I-L-L-I-N-G."

: "Oh "

Yes it is time
To defeat Walter
Kick him in the nuts
And steal his texture

Yeah, great, let's take advice on how to defeat Walter from the guy who got killed by him.

: "Maybe we can reason with him? "
: "Fuck no, that's a stupid idea."
: "Maybe kill him just a little bit?"
: "Shut your mouth texture, you dumb broad."

Kill...
Chill...
Bill...
Krill...
Fill...
Ill...
Hill...

: "Walter can take me over any day of the week. "

After telling us to kill Walter some more, Joseph finally shuts up, and we discover this pickaxe in the wall next to our bedroom door.

: "It's so heavy with hope that I can hardly lift it."

Hold on, Marty, we're going back to the future!
