Chapter 5 - We don't need no water
Last time, we gave our good mentally challenged friend jasper a drink, and in return he's about to give us SOMETHING REALLY GOOD.

Oh fucking hell. The super duper special prize turns out to be a small spade. Never mind the fact that you can pick those up for less than a buck in most hardware stores, this one has writing on it!

Of course, since this is Silent Hill, the writing is in blood. You'd think that blood wouldn't exactly stick to metal, especially when said metal is used to dig around in the earth.

Anyway, we go through the fourth and final door in the courtyard, and dodge a small pack of Zombie Dogs. You might notice that the dog in the foreground has a slightly different color, it's somewhat redder than the other dogs, indicating that it does more damage. Not that I care, since it's only a short dash to the next gate.

Never before have I been so relieved at the sight of nature's horrible mutations!

We now use the super special spade with writing on it to clear away the dirt. Because, you know, it's not like we have any hands or metal objects with which we could do this.

The Silent Hill cult has a strict set of rules concerning blood on items. No single item is to be used by a cult member unless it's covered in blood or bloody writing.

This is a delightful puzzle that does a great job of artificially lengthening the time we have to spend in this level. If we try to go back to the Wish House with this key in our inventory, we'll find that we'll get stuck in an infinite loop, where the gate out of one of the areas between this tree and the house will transport us back to the start of that very same area, meaning we can't reach the Wish House.
The solution to this brainteaser?

I'll tell you right after this screenshot of me finding another golf club. Soon I'll have (broken) the whole set.

So, in order to solve the puzzle, we have to enter this hole in the area behind the weird tree where we dug up the key...

...dump the key in the chest in our apartment...

...head back to the forest world...

...walk back to the Wish House (which we can now reach because we no longer have the key on us), and then...

...go into the hole pictured above and collect our key.

Fucking finally.

16/21

Yes, this seems like a good place for a kid who has lost his parents to grow up, surrounded by broken furniture, disgusting wallpaper and the scriptures of a mad cult.

Oh, you know...brain washing, child molesting, scripture reading...cult stuff.

That didn't stop him from trying though.
The Second Sign
And God said,
Offer the Blood of the Ten Sinners
and the White Oil.
Be then release from the bonds of the flesh, and gain the Power of Heaven.
From the Darkness and Void, bring forth Gloom,
and gird thyself with Despair for the Giver of Wisdom.
The Third Sign
And God said,
Return to the Source through sin's Temptation.
Under the Watchful eye of the demon, wander alone in the formless Chaos.
Only then will the Four Atonements
be in alignment.
Blah blah blah sins blah blah God blah blah demons blah blah chaos.
Got it.

While your reading the book you can hear the sound of a door opening. When you're done reading, this door has been opened. On it, we find a plaque similar to the one that we found near Cynthia's body.

We can also hear someone crying on the other side of the door. Now, shortly after we found the first plaque, Cynthia died, so that can only mean one thing...

Burning Jasper Dance Party!

Ever since high school Henry has been terrified of dancing.

A pattern to these numbers, you say? Let's not jump to conclusions, alright?

See those candles besides you Jasper? That's where the fire needs to go.

And now you're on fire. I hope it was worth the wait.

Here lies J-J-J-Jasper G-Gein.
Drinking chocolate milk in heaven.

The screen fades to black, and we're once again in our apartment.

: "...scientists found a tree with a root that looks just like an arm. According to sources, the scientist that made the discovery is still quivering with glee."

: "Police also found several holes of roughly one meter in diameter in nearby walls. The holes, which are surrounded by some sort of red symbol, have not yet been investigated by the local authorities, because, according to the police chief Bernard Hayes, quote, "Those holes all smell like there's a fucking filthy toilet on the other side", unquote. Investigation of the holes has been suspended until the police can find an air freshener, preferably pine-scented, that is strong enough to repel the scent.

: "An empty bottle of chocolate milk found near the scene of the crime suggests that the victim was a stuttering junkie."

: "A little boy who allegedly witnessed the murder claimed to be this Walter Sullivan, but no-one wanted to believe him, so he disappeared in a puff of red smoke."

Again with the doorbell. Can't a man be locked up in his own apartment in peace these days?

: "I'm looking for my son, James. Have you seen him?"

: "Stop calling me Help. My name's Frank."

Apartment? What's going on with this apartment?

: "That heavy heavy monster sound..."

: "These muffled cries for help sound oddly familiar."

And with that, Frank buggers off. Also, note the number of red hand prints on the wall. Can you count to seventeen?

I'm convinced that Eileen spends the largest part of her days sitting on the edge of bed, staring at the wall.

Now would be a good time to cut off the update, but 40 images is a bit short, so I'll keep going.

Oh God, the horror!

After the usual tunnel animation we wake up in...wait, where the hell are we?

: "Wait, where the hell am I?"

As Henry lifts himself from the concrete floor, he hears a male voice yelling for help. Don't worry stranger, Apathy Man is on the job!

Lucky! I finally escaped from the cell.
I decided to take a careful look around this building.
The scariest place was the 1st floor basement. There's a kitchen in the
northeast, but next door in the northwest is a death chamber.
To get in there, you have to punch in the right numbers. I don't know the
numbers, and it was too dark to even see the panel, so I didn't go in.
But before I try to escape from this horrible place, let me first write a short essay on the structural layout of the building.

Further down the circular hallway, we finally meet up with the gentleman in distress. Judging by the doors (and the name of this level), we're in some sort of prison.

More about this Walter person. It's almost like he's an important element of the plot or something.

There's nothing we can do for this guy right now (hell, we can't even talk to him), so let's just keep exploring.

So, this is the layout of the floor: eight cells and a door to the south.

The cells are rather creepy. Each one has a peephole like this one in the wall. You can hear footsteps in the central room behind the hole, and from time to time, someone (or something?) stands in front of the hole, blocking the light and darkening the cell. Big Brother is watching you.

Oh boohoo, little baby can't live without his precious privacy.

It looked like a kid's writing ten seconds ago, and now it still looks like a kid's writing. What's up with that?

You don't say.

Oh hi, how are you doing? Still locked up I see? How's your paralyzing fear of this Walter coming along? Good, good. Well, don't go anywhere, I'll be back for you in a day or two.
