About

Welcome to the Let's Play Archive, the largest collection of video game playthroughs on the internet. On this site, you can find a large collection of completed Let's Play threads presented in a clean and ad-free format, with new threads being added constantly. The Let's Play Archive was created in early 2007 as a way to preserve past Let's Play threads in full, without having to rely on outside image hosts, video hosts or forums. In little over a year, the number of games featured in the Archive has increased from five to over 400, thanks to the continued efforts of a large number of people.

The concept of the Let's Play thread was born on the forums of Something Awful, where they became popular in early 2006 and were given their own sub-forum in March 2007. A Let's Play thread, often abbreviated as "LP", is a forum thread where one person plays through a game, recording his progress by video, screenshots, or both, and then posts this progress in updates in his Let's Play thread. Most of the time, the screenshots and videos are accompanied by informative, insightful, in-character or just plain funny commentary by the author, making Let's Play threads a great way to get to know the ins and outs of a game in a fun way, without having to go through the hassle of actually playing the damn thing.

In late 2008, the folks at archive.org offered to host Video LPs in perpetuity, solving the crisis of where to host large numbers of videos.

Feel free to browse through our huge archive of entertaining and enthralling Let's Play threads by over 200 different authors, covering video games of all genres, ages and consoles, and be sure to check back regulary for new content!
