Part 21: Why God, Why?

John Pastor posted:

Wolf dude was... a bit contrived, there.

: "Let me join you!"
: "You're our enemy."
: "No I'm not!"
: "Well, I'm convinced. But how did you get his suit? Wasn't he using it to fight some Gundam or ano-"
: "I'm not your enemy!"
: "Oh, okay. Never mind."
: "Oh god I'm on fire!"
: "Let's just go."
: "Yay!"
: "Muhuhahahahaha- *cough, cough* Sorry."
: "...Great."

...Or maybe I'm just cynical.

Funny you should mention Fritz!

Chapter 20: Why God, Why?

And so we head off on the long, dangerous journey to G System 04

Goddamnit.

Okay, screw this. I'm stopping this shit now.

Now our journey was less dangerous, and really just long.

: I hope it's still functional.
: I hope Olivia's right about this. Come on, let's go to the core.

This G System is a little different than most. It's got fewer corridors and more caves. Which is good, because I think I reached my corridor tolerance for the next month after that tunnel.

No matter how harmless Hizacks are, they can still cause some damage if you try to zerg rush them with reckless abandon.

Here we are. Let's start with the Rick Dias.

Fuck you too, game

KungFuJesus

: Yeah, it sure is...
: What is it, Cheeto?
: I wonder why Vladi gave us the Gundam?
: Yeah, that is strange.
: Do you think he knew we would need it to create the Zeta Gundam?
: Good question. The only way to find out, though, is to ask him!
: Yeah... Standing around chattering isn't going to answer any questions.
: Exactly my point! Come on, we have the Gundam Mark II now. Let's report back to Olivia!

I wonder how many times I've said "First things first" or some variant over the course of this LP.

Cheeto gets the Gundam Mk II, the Gundam goes to Tremmie (we'll have to recolor it later), Aeon gets the Rick Dias, and Bazuli gets the Kaempfer.

Pipgirl Okay, we can leave now.

I installed a pair of giant fuckoff cannons on the Gundam Mk II's back. I'll probably never use them in regular combat, but Cheeto has a boost attack that fires off all of his equipped weapons at once providing he has 4 or more weapons. It's good for boss battles, just not worth it to charge up to 9EN for a regular battle.

Oh, Aeon conveniently got her spider-sense back. Good to know.
: An enemy? Where!?
: Heh! Heh! Heh! Looks like you found me!
: Who are you! Show yourself!
Missing question mark #2.
: Have you forgotten me already? That's too bad.

: It's about time I found you! I've been looking everywhere!
: Are you here to arrest us?
: Of course. You're traitors and criminals.
: Wait! You've been tricked! Captain Hal is the one who betrayed the Eisengrad Army!
: Heh! Heh! Heh! So what if he is? Now then, come along quietly so that no one gets hurt.
: I don't think so! We're not going to let you just take us away!
: Fine, then. Have it your way! I'll be waiting for you on the surface.

: Don't worry, kiddo! I'll give 'em a good pounding!
: Time to get this party started! Come on, Cheeto!
: All right! Let's show them what we're made of!
: Yeah!
Yeah, whatever. Screw this. I'm outta here.

Oh. I see...

Alright then, let's tear up some cannon fodder!

We do a lot of fighting here

It never ends.

And none of them are sub-bosses. they're all just yellow battles.

And I've got Bazuli handling healing, so Aeon can spam Bits. It's a pretty effective system, if I do say so myself.

: Perhaps you need some stronger opponents! I'm sure you'll get along splendidly! Heh! Heh! Heh!

That's right. Two more rooms of this. Let's fast forward.

Much better

: I'm fine, but I can't say as much for the little ladies...!
: Who are you calling "little," kid? I'm still ready and rarin' to go!
: Ha ha ha! Glad to hear it!
: How are you doing, Aeon?
: This is nothing! I can still right!

: Once we're outside, find an opening and charge!

On second thought...

Okay, NOW we can charge.

: Heh, heh, heh. I don't think so!

Oh shi-
: What!? They're blocking our way out!
: We can't run this way, either! There's too many of them!
: Cheeto! They have us completely surrounded!
: Don't give up! We'll fight to the end!

: We're not letting a cheat like you beat us!
: Hmph. I hoped you would come quietly.
(The ground shakes)
: What!? What's happening here!?

: We're taking heavy losses! Arrrghh! Aaaahhh!
Who is it? Is it Li Fang?

No, long distance isn't her style. Vargas, maybe?

No, Vargas would be sniping the enemy, not shelling the living hell outta them. Could... could it be Gavenger?

COULD GAVENGER POSSIBLY BE ALIVE!?
: My troops... What's going on?

Is-is it possible?

"OH MOTHERFUCKER WHY THE FUCK DIDJKRF-"

"I'm... I'm so angry. I'm absolutely furious... But I don't feel a thing..."

"Fritz, call a doctor... I... I think you coming back actually overloaded and shorted out the part of my brain that processes anger..."
: It is you! Fritz! Where have you been!? I've been worried about you!
: Hold on, bro! We can catch up after these goons are taken care of!

Zutaten

: It looks like the odds have changed!
: So you took out the cannon fodder. You really think you can beat me? You still haven't seen my little present from Lord Zarth! Farewell, Cheeto!

SUB-BOSS BATTLE: PSYCHIC ZAKU X2 AND QUBELEY
This can be a problem fight if you're not careful.

The Psychic Zakus love to use this move.

I can do that too!

So first we wipe out the Zakus just to get them out of the way

And also because two Bit attacks AND this would have kicked my ass.

And that, as they say, is that.

: He turned tail and ran! Talk about a coward!
: You've got a lot of explaining to do, Fritz! Where have you been!?
: I-I'm sorry, Tremmie!
: Oh, I'm just giving you a hard time! Thanks for saving our butts just now!
: Heh heh heh! I never thought I'd live to see the day you'd thank me, Tremmie!
: Welcome back, Fritz!
: Aeon! How've you been? Are you and my bro hitting it off?
: What!?
: Fritz! Pipe down! Can't you see you're embarrassing her?
: Oh, come on! I'm just playing!
: Same old Fritz...!

: How did you get here, anyway?
: Oh no! I almost forgot!
: Huh? Almost forgot what?
: Well, actually... Now's not the time! I'll tell you later! It's just a little... Complicated!
: Something bad? Come on, give me a real explanation already!
: Believe me, you're in for a surprise! Now hurry! We have to go!
: Hey! He said he wanted a real explanation!
: Calm down! You'll understand when we get there! A BIG surprise just landed back at Unicorn Headquarters!
So we lose Gavenger to get Fritz. Great motherfucking tradeoff right there.

Next time: Cross-country tour!

MSopedia:

RX-178 Gundam Mark II
Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam - Anti-Earth Union Group (white)/Titans Forces (black)
The Titans developed three Gundam Mk IIs shortly before the Gryps Conflict. The three prototypes were constructed in the Gryps colonies with plans underway to mass-produce. When the AEUG caught wind of this, Char Aznable (disguised as Quattro Bajeena, and by disguised I mean wearing a pair of novelty sunglasses) led a team of Rick Dias to capture them. Helped by Kamille Bidan, Char succeeded and the three units were obtained by AEUG.

MSA-099 Rick Dias
Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam - Anti-Earth Union Group
The Rick Dias was commissioned by the AEUG to use against the corrupt Titans Forces. Its design is reminiscent of Zeonic Mobile Suits from the One Year War.

RMS-108 Marasai
Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam - Titans Forces
The Marasai was a big step up from the Hizack in abilities and performance. Much like the Hizack it was very easy to pilot and maintain, making it a very popular suit.

NRX-044 Asshimar
Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam - Titans Forces
The Asshimar was a new concept in Mobile Suit design. It had the ability to transform into an aircraft shape to allow it to enter the Earth's atmosphere unassisted. It was wildly successful, seeing heavy use during the Gryps Conflict.

FA-78-1 Gundam Full Armor Type
Mobile Suit Variations - E.F.S.F.
The Full Armor Gundam never saw development. It was just a concept designed by the Federation to entertain the idea of making the Gundam even more powerful.

AMX-004 Qubeley
Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam - Axis Zeon Forces
The Qubeley was designed for the personal use of Haman Karn, the leader of the Axis Zeon forces. It was equipped with a tail containing funnels that could be controlled by her Newtype mind. Unlike most characters in Gundam, Haman piloted the Qubeley all through both the Gryps Conflict and the subsequent Neo Zeon War.
