Myth: The Fallen Lords

Part 93: The Watcher - recap

Mission Recap

Game film: LP The Watcher (TFL 1.5)

I'm not sure that the Legion high command completely thought this through. Only melee units? Well, maybe only the zerks were fast enough. Or crazy enough to volunteer for a grinder like this.

Speaking of casualties, I have a little internal debate almost every time I make one of these videos, on how much effort I should spend to push it towards zero casualties. IMO a well-executed mission is more entertaining than a botched one, but I don't want my play or commentary to get too mechanical (or to burn out). Taking at least some casualties is part of Myth. In the end I usually just try to get the tactics down and then accept any minor accidents. In this case, honestly, I was afraid of the time sink that this mission could become; it's an unholy combination of an emphasis on micromanagement and multiple opportunities for random disaster.

I believe I mentioned this in the video, but it bears repeating: if you're willing to ride the pause button, you can get big dividends from picking individual targets for each of your zerks. If you do that, and trick the first shade into not using its dispersal dream, and spend some time to shake the pus out of the ghôls before you attack en masse... then this mission shouldn't be as crushingly difficult as it first appears.

Regardless, the Fallen Lord that was blocking our path to Balor's fortress has been dusted.

P.S. Double boo for the recycled victory screen; it doesn't even make any sense for this mission.
