Part 54: The Shaymin Update

OH C'MON. GIRATINA.

Oh, it's from Prof. Oak.

Old man BETTER have a good reason for sending me through here.

Ok I don't remember ANY of this.

Wait, no. Wasn't there a guy here?

It's foggy, is someone there?

Oh. Yes. Someone is!

Savior of Sinnoh and Pokémon Champ, Lady. And this is my partner, Viola. We solve crimes.

Oh. Jeez, there wasn't a crime or anything was there? Cause like—

Oh. Yeah sure, helping ladies through tunnels is what Lady does best!

Yeah, thanks.

Choro Notes: Marley
Another partner! Marley is. . . kind of out there. She's very quiet and shy. The monsters she use tend to be on the fast side of things.

Hope you're handy in a fight!

Choro Notes: Marley's Arcanine
Marley's Arcanine is fast and powerful, however it's a little overzealous with one of its tricks. . .

Choro Notes: Helping Hand
Helping Hand, you may have seen your own monsters try to learn this! It's marginally less useful than attacking with both guys! Basically the user is helping its partner in battle by raising the base power of its partner's moves. It has absolutely no use in single battles.

Just an Ankylosaur and a Lion Dog jumping around causing tremors. Yesss.

Oh piss.
I'm now realizing how bad of an idea it was to KO my partner's only monster in a multi battle.

fffffffffffffff

Choro Notes: Outrage
Outrage is a dragon-type Thrash. . . except stronger. It attacks for 2-3 turns but then confuses the user. Thankfully by then, (in the case of Dragons) whatever you've targeted will probably be cinders. It's Japanese name apparently translates to "Imperial Rage" and that owns.

What is that mama made of, jeez.

Oh dear.

Took you all one on two, DEAL WITH IT. . . . sorry Marley.

Hmm?

NO TIME. CHECK OUT THAT SEA COW.

NO DON'T SHE HAS SWO—

D: Wow your dog is skilled in the high fives.

Well done, Arcanine!

Awesome teamwork! You're kinda my best partner yet!

Dewgong

Dewgong loves to snooze on bitterly cold ice. The sight of this Pokémon sleeping on a glacier was mistakenly thought to be a mermaid by a mariner long ago. Its streamlined body has little drag in water. The colder the temperature, the friskier it gets. Dewgong stores thermal energy in the body. It swims at a steady eight knots even in these intensely cold waters. It sleeps under shallow ocean waters during the day, then looks for food at night when it's cold.
Choro Notes: Dewgong kind of sucked until it got Hydration as an ability. Now it's pretty. . . okay!
Zorak Notes: Sirenia are pretty fuckin sweet. Manatees and dugongs own. They are like literally aquatic dogs and are entirely adorable.
HulkaMatt Notes: Skinny, faster Walrein without a beard. I like it. Kind of wish I raised one in Red/Blue because I bet it'd be unstoppable.
HulkaMatt named this

Choro Notes: This cavern and the route after it are full of tough trainers with some advanced strategies, but really nothing interesting happened. Lots of high fives but that's really it.

OH JEEZ RUN.

Choro Notes: Guess how this battle went.

The answer is badly!

TAG TEAM, BACK AGAIN.

TURTLE. BEATS. MONKEY.

Oh PISS.

You've got enough beams, plus you have Nevica for that.

Totally didn't almost lose to you. Sorry Marley.

This dungeon is so full of trainers it's hardly unknown. It's a nice cave though, the water gives it a cerulean hue.

Well, yeah. Nobody said anything.

No problem, anyone who appreciates the encouraging power of high fives is a friend of mine.

Well that was neat, never seen an Arcanine before.

Know I saw something out here. . .

Aha!

Lapras

Lapras have gentle hearts. This gentle Pokémon loves to give people rides and provides a very comfortable way to get around. An intelligent species, it understands human speech. Because they rarely fight, many have been caught. Their number has dwindled. People have driven Lapras almost to the point of extinction. In the evenings, this Pokémon is said to sing plaintively as it seeks what few others of its kind still remain.
Choro Notes: Lapras are kinda neat! Rare though because of their delicious, delicious meat bodies.
Zorak Notes: Why the heck does this Nessie have a turtle shell? WHY DOES IT HAVE THAT?
HulkaMatt Notes: Lapras is awesome. HE WILL GIVE YOU A COMFORTABLE RIDE ACROSS THE SEA. NO CONCUSSIONS GUARANTEED!!! Train a Lapras because they are underused today.
HulkaMatt named this

Is this the right place even?

Can't believe people come all the way out here.

--Today's Swarm monster!--

I had no idea birds could be so tiny.

Natu

Natu lives in arid regions and picks food from cactus plants, deftly avoiding buds and spines. It seems to skip about to move. Natu cannot fly because its wings are not yet fully grown. If your eyes meet with this Pokémon's eyes, it will stare back intently at you. But if you move even slightly, it will hop away to safety. Natu has a highly developed jumping ability. The Pokémon flaps and leaps onto tree branches that are taller than grown-up people to pick at the tree's new shoots.
Choro Notes: Natu own. Look at the little dude it's such a cool little bird. They have a tendency to teleport away mid battle.
Zorak Notes: Natu and Xatu are adorable psychic birds, probably my favorite psychic types. Used a Xatu in Emerald and it was great
HulkaMatt Notes: Natu is an awesome bird. Wanna raise that bird. Would totally raise it in B/W if not for the whole only new pokémon being found in the wild thing.

Oh c'mon. WHAT AM I GONNA DO WITH THREE UP-GRADES?

Oh hey this is the Pacific, come to think of it.

Luvdisc

Luvdisc live in shallow seas in the tropics and make the branches of Corsola their nests. This heart-shaped Pokémon earned its name by swimming after loving couples it spotted in the ocean's waves. Luvdisc's heart-shaped body is a symbol of love and romance. It is said that any couple meeting this Pokémon is promised a loving relationship that never ends. There is a custom from long ago of giving a Luvdisc as a gift to express one's feelings of love. During the spawning season, countless Luvdisc congregate at coral reefs, turning the waters pink.
Choro Notes: Luvdisc exists mostly to give you Heart Scales. They spawn with them fairly often.
Zorak Notes: haters gonna hate
HulkaMatt Notes: I like all water pokémon this will always be true. This pokémon embodies my love for water pokémon so I guess it's alright!!!!!!!!!! that was as nice as I could possibly be, right???
Good Listener named this

I use my. . . watch.

Choro Notes: This is another reference to a movie character! It's Rebecca, the metagross trainer from Destiny Deoxys. She even mentions her laptop. Again this was missed in the localization.

I have NEVER seen that actually work D:
Choro Notes: Metagross
Metagross is one of Hoenn's two pseudolegendary/600stat monsters. Metagross is a walking tank and it's goddamned terrifying. They pin their prey to the ground and tear chunks off of them with the mouth on their underside. They're a powerful Psychic/Steel type. So imagine a Bronzong that trades its one weakness removing stat for the ability to storm military compounds by itself and you get Metagross.

Holy CRAP.

Just a lot of stomping and punching with that thing, huh?

Good thing it conducts heat like a motherfucker.

Kudos on that Magnet Rise.

Oh, Marley.

Oh, psh. You can really say whatever you want here, it's hard as hell to offend anyone.

Naaaah, it's fine. Haha, sometimes you can just be abrasive and snarky. It's what I usually do! I'm just kinda chipper today.

Oh right, a Pokémon among the flowers.

You could have just called, I yell at Rowan but that's because he REALLY annoys me with the constant calls.

Choro Notes: Oak's Letter
Another Wifi event! Thank you, Nintendo! To get this event to occur, you need the Oak's Letter item. You can still come out to this route but Oak won't meet you here. Marley also won't show up at the end, however she DOES show up in Victory Road regardless so go meet her, whatever.

Ok, yeah. Shoot.

growing as a person on an adventure.

I dunno, have I grown as a person?

shaped you into the person you are.
Well I hate more things than I used to and I learned that splendid is one of my favorite words to be called now.

Who sincerely affected me the most. . .

. . . hmmmm

Don't— don't look. I'm gonna write. . . Crasher Wake, yeah.

What the fudge?!

Music: Ruby/Sapphire - Abandoned Ship (Anime arrangement)

WHAT WAS THAT?

Wait, YOU don't know?!

I don't know! All I did was write—

Hmm?

Oh, uh, no problem?

Anyone who KOs an infernape with me is a friend of mine.

Did the route extend? This just shot off into the ocean.

Oh jeez.

Wow this thing doesn't end.

So freaking cute, look at you.

Choro Notes: Shaymin always has a Lum Berry. :I

Oh! That was really easy!

Shaymin

Shaymin live in flower patches and avoids detection by curling up to look like a flowering plant. It can dissolve toxins in the air to instantly transform ruined land into a lush field of flowers. The flowers all over its body burst into bloom if it is lovingly hugged and senses gratitude. Feelings of gratitude are the message it delivers.
Choro Notes: Shaymin is this generation's Mew, Celebi, Jirachi counterpart. (So is Manaphy, for some reason.) Its signature move is Seed Flare, a high power but fairly inaccurate move that has a chance of halving the target's sp.def.
Zorak Notes: A neat little legendary I rather like. It's a chia pet and a hedgehog and is entirely adorable!
HulkaMatt Notes: Shaymin likes flowers. I also like Flowers. Shaymin, you're alright with me.

I guess we just head back?

--Later!--

I bet Shaymin had something to do with the stories here!

Yes! You told me last time I was here!

You said that last time too!

Check it out if you poke his head he curls up

Oh! Thank you!

. . . I don't have to give you the Gracidea back for thanking you do I?

Hey Grassias

Check out this flower.

Shaymin (Sky Form)

The blooming of Gracidea flowers confers the power of flight upon Shaymin.
Choro Notes: Shaymin has the bizarre ability to change form, kind of like Giratina, when exposed to a Gracidea flower. It's actually pretty powerful but at the same time. . . eh?
Zorak Notes: The dumb flying dog form is retarded. Why does it get it? Why does the cool hedgehog have to turn into a FLYING DOG WITH EARS AND DUMB
HulkaMatt Notes: Sonic the Hedgehog if he turned into one of Santa's reindeer to find the chao and save his 54 friends. (in the spring)
