Chapter 19: Bothering the Brigands (part 2)

Hero's Theme and Character Selection. The bandit theme, which plays in this and the following screen, is the same as the character selection theme.

If you make any noise on this or the previous screen, such as by defeating the minotaur, breaking down the door, or certain other things in this area, bandit archers will appear in the four windows on the left and right of the screen. They will then fire for as long as you are in the middle of the area, slowly draining your health.

What a strange room. And what’s this note on the rug say?

I can barely read that! Was the guy laughing when he wrote it? Oh well, I guess I can trust random signs.

Hey, no way I’m trusting random signs. I bet the one on the two-pole bridge is lying, too. I’ll just walk around the left side here…

OH SHI–

Hey, what does the one on the right have written on it?

Well, I guess I can trust a nice, solid hand like that. I’ll just walk on over…

Ow! Stupid jack-in-the-box, alerting everyone. Hey archers, I bet you can’t even hit me from there!

Well, maybe you can.

And here’s how you avoid making a fool of yourself. Simply by clicking “look” on the giant black ropes, you can cross them without any trouble.

Alright, so it’s avoid the rug, avoid the tripwire, trust the steady hand, and then I’m home free. Man, I’m sure glad they don’t try the same trick more than once.

I was wrong! But wait…you?! But…this isn’t possible! You should be dead! I killed you! I KILLED YOU! NOOOOOOOOOOO!!

This whole place was just full of traps. Good thing I avoided them all so well.

Ah, good, just the one passed-out brigand here. Looks like I can just head through without trouble.

I’d better be careful, I think the brigands are on to me. I think I can still get to the door in time, though.

Oh, uh, hey guys.

Maybe if I move the chair here, they’ll try this door and get stuck.

Hey, no fair peeking!

Alright, so I bar the door, wait for the brigands to head right, then use the chair. Now I can definitely get through!

Damnit, more brigands! Hey wait, didn’t I see you guys in something before?

Ha ha! I will stop you with my candelabra!

It was around here that I got tired of showing all the different ways you can die because of timing, so I’ll just tell you: you die if you topple the candelabra early (they just go around), you die if you climb up onto the table early (they just turn around), and you die if you don’t grab the rope in time (they just catch up with you). I’ll also note that this screen gives you a hint about who’s in charge and how big each one is based on the chairs at the head table.

Errol Flynn, eat your heart out.
