Secret of the Stars

Part 8: Chapter Eight: History of Japan 101

Well, at least Dan's not level 4. Still, that's at least 5 levels lower than we'd like him. And he comes with really shitty equipment. We Fly By back to Mylawn to survey the damage.

Oh hey, we got some ships now!

The hospital and lab have been utterly obliterated, but a few houses still stand. The shrine in the center is also OK. Dynamite tells us that we need to find Dr. Ash, who lives on a floating continent high above. To reach him, we'll need a rocket. A rocket that needs fuel from an octopus that can only be summoned with a red and blue orb. In order to do that, we'll need to use the ships, which won't be operational until we find a gold nail sticking out of Bun's old house.

Yeah. This game.

Strategy guide moment #12. We take the nail back to the ships and we set sail.

Even at level 1, Dan's Bomb magic is pretty useful, dealing upwards of 50 damage to entire groups of enemies.

We stop at an island to the north containing two feuding towns. Onsaka to the south and Edon to the north. We stop at Onsaka first.

Real subtle, Tecmo.

I buy 6 Meatballs, which restore health just like Breads. We're gonna need em for later. The weapon and armor shops also contain some upgrades. After shopping, we go to the lord's house.

Lord: Heh, heh, heh...anyway, the strongest samurai swordsman in the world came to help me.

The samurai he speaks of is Jubei, our next Kustera, who is training in the next room over. He basically tells us to piss off. We leave Onsaka for now and head north to Edon.

We go to the mayor's house, who asks us to beat Jubei. In return, he'll give us his treasure, which is one of the orbs we need. Back to Onsaka we go. After finding out that we're working for Edon, Jubei challenges us to a fight.

5-on-1. This will be easy, right?

Wrong. Jubei is NOT like the Ari Bros. He is very tough, hits hard, and has a lot of HP. Tina does the usual round of Fasts and Slows, Leona and Dan stick with Bolt and Bomb, respectively, while Ray and Cody use melee attacks. Ray could use Fire 2, but I prefer to save his MP in case he needs to become a backup healer. We beat Jubei and he joins us.

Jubei: My name is Jubei, a Kustera. Let's fight together!

Jubei joined you!

After talking to the Edon mayor again, he gives us the Red Orb. Now all we need to do is find the Blue Orb. We leave this island and head for another one to the village of Moreeyes.

Some good armor for Dan, who previously has been dying in 2 hits.

Ahh, good old family racism.

We head into the shrine in the center of the island, where our next Kustera is.

In a nutshell, he tells us that he has a favor to ask, but first we need to visit all of the Star Shrines and officially become Aqutallion warriors. We go to Ray's shrine first.

Time to settle the score with a certain fire man.

This time around it's easy-peasy. His various fire techniques never do more than 35 damage and Heal 2 patches Ray up nicely when his HP gets too low. After kicking his ass, we get 3654 exp.

Fire: Banalets can combine and create what is known as "Unity Magic". To unite magic, you need two allies each with similar types of magic. Also besides attack and defense magic, remember there are weapons with magic. You can power up weapons when you unite them with similar magic spells. Warriors carrying the stars of Actos, I wish the blessing of the stars on you.

Ray became Banalet!

So now we're halfway there to being able to use combo magic. Tina's shrine is nearby, so we go there next.

Tina's melee isn't as strong as Ray's, but this is still an easy fight since the Mermaid's strongest attack only does 30 damage and her other attacks are pathetically weak. However, she does have the Fast and Slow spells to counter Tina's own Fast and Slow, so it makes things somewhat tedious. After beating the Mermaid, she gives the exact same spiel as Fire and Tina is upgraded to Banalet. Now that we finally have combo magic, time to show it off.

After inputting everyone's moves, you can select "Combi" and see if they will combine.

Success!

Admittedly, not very impressive, but as everyone else gains Banalet status and as they learn better spells, we can make more powerful combinations. There are also elemental swords out there that, when combined with the appropriate spells, do triple digit damage.

Time for Cody's fight.

Two bosses? That's hardly fair. For them, that is. Their physical attacks only do 1 damage and their spells aren't much stronger. After several uses of Power 2, Cody does nearly 40 damage on each turn. This fight is so easy it's laughable.

Leona's shrine is on a frigid island.

Compared to the others, this guy is actually kind of tough. Not just because he can cause critical hits with his melee, but Leona doesn't have any healing spells and needs to rely on the Meatballs, which only recover around 35 damage a turn. Mirror 1 wards off his bolt attacks, and you'll want him to use it as often as possible, if only to avoid painful crits. Leona just barely does double digit damage with her physical attack, so after a somewhat drawn-out battle, Clay goes down. After leaving his sanctum, Leona regroups with the others and we're treated to a nice little cutscene of the spirits all uniting with their corresponding warrior to grant them Aqutallion status.

Now that the legend of the Aqutallion has finally been realized, we can continue on with our main quest. Until next time...

See Ya!
