Shattered Union

Part 22

And because Pesty13480 doesn't forget his promises:

The Battle of the Cumberlands

Our directions of attack, as always I choose the one that's least inconvenient rather than most strategically relevant.

That weird building right in the center/bottom is Nashville's landmark. Probably the country music hall of fame, which has to burn on general principles.

And this is how I deploy. I don't bother bringing anything but tanks and chaparrals because the AI has almost nothing here.

In Birmingham they love the governor
Now we all did what we could do
Now Watergate does not bother me
Does your conscience bother you?
Tell the truth

Yes, I bought some new bombers because I have too much money and nothing to spend it on. Here's my army moving up to Gadsen, by the way:

And here's me trying to bomb the Country Music Hall of Fame, which didn't turn out to be such a wise move since a bunch of partisan hicks were acting as hidden meatshields.

Their sacrifice was in vain.

However, I run into problems as my bombers keep flying through a Confederate combat air patrol while trying to destroy the rest of Nashville.

I do target Nashville's main bridge over the Cumberlands, just to buy myself a bit of time however. All the bombers survive, but they're each fairly damaged.

Pardon me, boy
Is that the Chattanooga choo choo?
Track twenty-nine
Boy, you can gimme a shine
I can afford
To board a Chattanooga choo choo
I've got my fare
And just a trifle to spare

Oops.

Better aim.

I once knew a keeper of dungeons who knew the true meaning of suffering and random, shocking violence that was meted out arbitrarily. I wonder if he would approve of Pacifica?

Huntsville.

Step 1: Chemical weapons.

Step 2: Apply lots of white phosphorus, as if it were Iraq.

Step 3: Let stand for a few hours.

Knoxville!

First, to stop people from escaping.

And some random town I forgot before. Pretty much the only thing standing on this map is Nashville by this point.

Oh, and Atlanta.

So I send up a Stuart.

Lots of tiny mushroom clouds follow:

The Stuart got hit by the shockwave, but it survived, as did this little portion of the city, which I finished off with some sustained Spirit.

Aww! A house.

Splat.

Anyhow, as I make my way up to Nashville, I get hit by something I'd never seen before.

Which is a God damned pain in the ass because it limits the vision of every one of your damned units to one hex. Which means they're completely useless since I didn't have anything like a proper scout. Can't see through the fog of war

This was going to get interesting.

Incoming.

And then the AI just quit, for fuck's sake.

And on the AI's "overworld" turn, the European Union finished off the Confederacy.

It's about damned time to pump up the AI bonus to $1000000 a territory.
