Touhou 5: Mystic Square Update 4

(Yuka) Stage 5, Boss: Yumemi. Stage 6, Boss: Shinki. Good Ending 4.

Bad Ending 4

People who had the patience:

Music, Touhou 5 posted:

Title screen theme
Wondrous Romance ~ Mystic Square

As usual, the title theme.
This is the song that really determined
the direction of the rest of the game's music.
Not bad, huh? (^^

Stage 1 theme
Dream Express

This is a fairly rhythmical song.
How unusual (^^; I thought of it while imagining
what makes Touhou what it is.
I hope you'll enjoy the rushing feeling of the
Dream Express during the main part.

Stage 1 Boss - Sara's theme
Magic Formation ~ Magic Square

This song really cements the
image of the songs this time.
It's kind of cool (^^; and has a kind
cute atmosphere about it. (I hope)

It kind of feels like the color of
Gensokyo comes through in the melody ...

Stage 2 theme
Dimension of Reverie

I wanted it to have a good rhythm ...
Listening to it, I wonder if the melody is cool.
Well, the stage 1 song had a good rhythm, right?
So I wanted the stage 2 song to match the stage
and have a sense of speed, but this is how it
turned out.

Stage 2 Boss - Luize's theme
Spiritual Heaven

This is the theme song for the boss who
has no reason to be around (^^;
This is too cool *g*

More like this would be nice ...

Stage 3 theme
Romantic Children

It has a pretty good "demon's world"
feel about it, doesn't it?
The stage 1, 2, and 3 songs all have a nice feeling of speed to them, don't they?
Since it's the spirit world, I think it
feels more Western ... yeah.

Stage 3 Boss - Alice's theme
Plastic Mind

If you listen earnestly(?) it's pretty dark ^^;
I think the third stage boss of a shooting game
is a significant turning point, so I put some
extra spirit into the making of this song.
(Well, it's not like I was taking the other
songs easy or anything ... (^^;;;

Stage 4 theme
Maple Wise

This song really settles down suddenly
compared to the others. (You think?)
This was a pretty hard song to finish.
Still, it came out pretty cool, I think.

Stage 4 Boss - Yuki and Mai's theme
Forbidden Magic

I was aiming for something straightforward, yet
cool in this song.
This is closest to the songs from last time.
It was really easy to finish compared to
"Maple Wise" (^^;;

Stage 4 Boss - Yuki's theme
Crimson Maiden ~ Crimson Dead!!

The melody is somehow like a demon ward.
All I can really remember is before I knew it,
the song was done.
It's kind of like something from my older games.

Stage 4 Boss - Mai's theme
Treacherous Maiden ~ Judas Kiss

The particularly musical piece for the
partner of the "Crimson Maiden".
I figured she should be strong, since it's the 4th
stage, so the song feels that way too. (What way's that?)

Stage 5 theme
the Last Judgement

I think I managed to make it feel very
end-of-game this time.
Yeah, it's pretty cool, isn't it?
I really like it (^^)

Stage 5 Boss - Yumeko's theme
Doll Story ~ Doll of Misery

This was a tough one. This has
the most complex chord progressions I've ever
done. This song is like a new start for me.
I wanted to make this song pretty dark, so this
is how it came out.
I like this song a lot, so I hope you'll all
listen to it.

Final Stage theme
End of the World ~ World's End

This song is just for a stage to let you
get some more items before the boss, so it's short.
Actually, I wanted to try to do this with just a
heartbeat sound, but this isn't that kind of
game *g*

Final Stage Boss - Shinki's theme
Legendary Illusion ~ Infinite Being

This is the last boss theme. Of course,
I really put a lot of spirit into it.
I was aiming for a song that had the right blend
of coolness and cuteness.
The main melody is pretty easy to remember,
so the song has a nice feel to it.
It's a pretty good song.

Extra Stage theme
Alice in Wonderland

Fairy-tale-esque and generally cool
is what I was going for this time.
Well, it's probably not fairy-tale-esque,
but it's pretty cool~
You have to dodge lots of bullets in the game,
so you probably can't listen too close, though *g*

Extra Boss - Alice's theme
the Grimoire of Alice

Compared to my other extra stage boss
themes, I paid close to the rhythm this time.
No matter how cheap the attacks coming are,
we can always emerge victorious with a superiour
groove (^^;

Bad Ending theme
Shinto Shrine

It sounds like all my other good
endings, but it's the bad ending *g*
Well, I guess that's just because all my
good endings were kind of dark.

Good Ending theme 1
Endless

We've got unusually strong ending
themes this time *g*

But it's very shrine-like (^^;

Good Ending theme 2
Eternal Paradise

I wanted to make something like a piano
solo, but ... yeah *g*
Well, it totally ends right in the middle ...

Staff roll
Mystic Dream

It's a very short song.
Still, it's because I wanted to match what
was happening on the screen with the music.
In other words, it means there isn't much
staff (and the staff roll is short)*laughs*

Ed.: It's longer than some of the stage songs this time ...

Extra Ending theme
Peaceful Romancer

I figured I'd do a nice, rhythmical
Japanese piece while trying to get better.
Well, the rehabilitation was a failure *g*
But the song turned out really nice (^^)
I guess I just really like this kind of
song (since I can only make this kind)

Name registration
Soul's Resting Place

This is very Japanese.
I think it would be nice if there were
more Japanese style songs like this in this
game ... *laughs*

*NOTE: Mystic Square's music room also has numerous tracks from other games/ remakes of the older games' songs, make sure to check them out!

Thanks to Hokuto and Leather Fedora for their help with the translation.

Still to come is the end of Red's playthrough, and then we're finally in WINDOWS COUNTRY
