War in the East

by Grey Hunter

Part 66

The first move in the north is to cut off the remaining units in the north – four cavalry corps and a Tank Corps amongst them.

Apart from this, I just drive forwards a bit more.

The 9th Army makes a few attacks, routing some enemy units.

4th Army does the same, we're just breaking up their weaker units and inflicting some casualties.

6th Army spends some time eliminating a trapped Rifle Corps.

Lacking fuel, I spend the time forming a line in the north, trapping some enemy units as I go.

There are some other units that need tidying up east of Stalingrad.

I then have another go at trapping enemy units. There may be masses of Russians in front of me, but they are all weak, and scatter before me. I miss the pocket by one hex once more.

IN the south, the enemy before Baku have all but disappeared, but supplies are low here, and we can only advance a small distance.

I then begin to eliminate the trapped forces to the west.

Some units surrender, but most just retreat, there are supplies enough in this region it seems.

On the far east of our line, the Russians mass for an attack, sending one of our divisions into retreat.

They evacuate that near pocket I had, but cannot save their trapped units.

They also seem to agree with my ruler straight line, and have pulled their men back to match it.

In the north, this is going to cost the Red Army a large number of men.

In the south, it seems there are no troops between me and Baku, or it could be I have no planes in the region.

Only 89,000 Russian casualties this week, but we have more Ruski's trapped.

There is no real change in the Russian numbers.

Our doctors and recruiters keep up their good work.

At least our fuel levels seem to have stabilized.

I drop down my pessimistic line of fortified zones in the south. I doubt I will need this, or even any in the north, but I will see how we go.

I think that at this point, I'm past my original plans for Fall Blau, but I still want Baku.
