War in the East

by Grey Hunter

Part 68

The first order of business is to continue to eliminate the Russian troops.

But although forty thousand men surrender, the same again hold out for another week.

Apart from that, I just start to straighten up the line a little. I may push to Cheroepovets, but it depends how the Russians defend up here.

9th Army makes two attacks on weak enemy units, sending them falling back with six thousand casualties.

The Red Army units in front of 4th Army collapse spectacularly. Sod the winter lines, I can threaten Voronezeh.

6th Army moves forwards and isolates Voronezeh, with its fearsome defences.

The two Panzer Armies surround a load more Russians, this will hurt them further before their inevitable winter offensive – I also rescue my trapped Panzer Division.

I then take Engels and surround Saratov.

Then I capture 50,000 men over the Volga.

Apart from that, there are just some scattered attacks.

The forces advancing on Baku run into a roadblock at Makhachkala, but they should brush it aside next week.

Grozney falls to our men, along with 20,000 more men. The Corps to the south then surrenders with another 10,000 men.

At the other end, we trap another Corps.

There are a couple of attacks on our weaker units near Moscow, but that is all.

They reconnect Saratov, but the other pockets hold.

They do abandon Voronezh.

Russian losses are a massive 200,000 this week. They have now lost over 7.5 million men.

This puts their forces down to 5.25 million men, a drop from last week.

The replacements continue to flow forwards.

The fuel pool recovers somewhat this week.

I keep expecting things to go wrong.
