War in the East

by Grey Hunter

Part 77

The Finn's advance is soon going to be limited by their government, not Russian numbers.

North of Moscow, the 16th and 18th Armies do it again, and smash a hole in the Russian line. Only the weather stops me exploiting it!

Up here, Partizan hunting is my biggest problem.

Even the 9th Army, long under staffed and reduced to Brigade strength in areas, is able to mount a few attacks.

And that is one of the strong points on the Red Army line, to the south, the 2nd and 4th Armies push forwards relentlessly.

The 6th Army takes Tambov, and then continues to eliminate every Russian they can find in the pocket. This nets us 55,000 Russians, and huge numbers of wreaked allied tanks. I say allied, as there must be scant few Russian built ones.

This is not the only pocket to fall either.

I also take steps to create a new one.

That's another three Tank Corps encircled. All along the front, the Russian lines are crumbling.

the 1st and 4th Panzer Armies are shifted west, this burns fuel, but I don't have the rail network to move them properly.

The Russians have large numbers of troops protecting the Volga line – when I have no plans on advancing further that way, and I am using what was the 11th Army to bolster these lines. - oh yeah, someone decided that the 11th Army was no longer needed, so I am adding those units to the already mammoth 17th, and moveing some corps from the 17th near Tambov into the 6th. The 17th will be in charge of defending the east, the 6th shall aid the march on Moscow.

Baku is in sight, but we also see a well defended mountain stronghold of the Russians, I shall need to move men back after taking the city – and I'm starting to think I have to many men invested in taking it – I expected more defenders by now.

Batumi is the other major target down here.

The large pocket holds, tens of thousands of Russian troops await my men and trips to the POW camps.

The line in front of Yaroslavl is weak, expect further pushes here.

One hundred and twenty thousand Russian losses. Two hundred and seventy tanks.

The Red Army has no way of recovering from these kinds of losses.

We replace out own losses as best we can.

The fuel situation has improved, as the Panzer's move west towards good, well protected rail lines. In fact, this is the strongest it has been in months!

Things are looking better and better all the time.

Its amazing how a little change on the map can have so much effect sometimes.
