Episode XXXIII: Kaiser Sigmund and the Prisoner From Aveh

Welp, Bart and the Desert Pirates are probably all dead, our base of operations is toast, and Fei went all Lahan super nuke again. That last chapter didn’t go particularly well, did it? Oh well, let’s switch gears and see how things are doing in Kislev. Remember, there was a war between Aveh and Kislev going on...? No? Well, we’re about to see a lot of the other side of the conflict. For instance, meet Kaiser Sigmund. His hobbies include organ playing in his office and...well, let’s just have a look.

An officer enters the Kaiser’s chamber...

*continues playing* "Yes."
"We investigated the cause of the recent explosion at the southern Aveh border. Our data showed a large amount of radiation was released at the epicenter. It was probably caused by an overload of a battleship class slave generator. The cause of this is still unknown. The shockwaves from that explosion took out two thirds of the Aveh and Gebler forces combined. Now, Aveh is in the process of regrouping their reserve units, but that should take at least several days. Concerning your order, the scouts have arrived at the area you requested..."
"Found it, eh...?"
"Yes, sir."
"I see."
"We know the Gear found was stolen from the 11th base by the Gebler unit in Aveh. And in the investigation of the machine, we also caught the unconscious pilot. The seized Gear has been transported to the capital. From the circumstances, we believe information was leaked to Aveh."
"How can you say that?"
"All the Gears except this were destroyed at Lahan. Judging from the ID signal, this one wasn't with Aveh but was part of a pirate group."

"Yes, sir."
*continues playing* "Uh huh..."
"We're now analyzing the combat data. However, we've discovered some black boxes which are likely to delay the analysis."
”Also, we’ve had to hose the cockpit down. It seemed the pilot had been wearing the same outfit for what appears to be months. Possibly even years. The investigation crew filed complaints about the stench. So that has slowed down progress.”
"Black boxes?"
"That Gear wasn't made by us. The stock body was brought in by 'them'."
"So that's it..."
"...Uh... Kaiser?"
"What?"
"Shouldn't we begin an assault on Aveh?"

Sigmund stops playing the organ and looks up...

"Huh?"
"Indeed it would be easy to take down Aveh. But it would exhaust our resources also."
"But we can't afford to miss this chance..."
"Even if we beat Shakhan, Solaris would only replace him with another puppet. What if we exhausted our resources and found ourselves under attack? Anyway, we must still be concerned with Nisan. There is nothing to gain by doing anything now."

Another officer enters the Kaiser’s chamber apparently signaling the mysterious ‘they’ have arrived. The pointy eared Kaiser and his lieutenant depart.

A short while later...

Well, I think that’s the least aerodynamic looking airship I am going to see today.

The overweight black carrier unloads a large crate with the aid of a pair of Kislev Gears. I’m sure said crate’s contents will never come up again.

Meanwhile, the rather cultish looking mysterious ‘they’ disembark from their mysterious ship to conduct some mysterious business. Mystery!

"Yes. If you use that, you can pass through the barrier. You will be free to go where and when you please."
"That man...what was it? Grahf? Is he around?"
"He's rather busy now. I was assigned to be his representative."
”I apologize for the inconvenience. I received a message just this morning from him screaming ‘POWER’ on the answering machine. So, I had little time to relay the unscheduled arrival of myself.”
"I will ask you this once. Why do you help us? Who are you people?"
"I've told you before. I simply wish to observe what is in store for the world. There are so many things you people must know. I am merely your guide. I cannot directly assist you. How you use it is entirely up to you."
"So you're telling me you do not require any recompense?"
"Let me see... Well then, how about this...?"

Whisper whisper...

And with that, the Masked Woman and her entourage depart. Mysteriously.

"What did she say?"
”She said you are to conduct this afternoon’s staff meeting in nothing but a thong and fishnets.”
“...Wha...?”
“Nah. I’m just joshing you. Ha. I had you going for a second. Really, she wants. Well...”

"They want me to transfer that Gear we captured and its pilot to D Block..."
"D Block? I wonder why?"
"I don't know either. ...But, we still owe them a favor. We just can't deny them. So see to it!"
"Yes, sir..."

Oh hey. It’s a nice memory of a young Fei playing ball with his mom.

Or...it’s a recording of a memory?

Oh, it’s Fei watching a recording of a memory of him playing ball with his mom. Wait...no...

It’s Fei watching his younger self watching a recording of a memory of him playing ball with his mom.

But wait...WE are watching Fei watching his younger self watching a recording of a memory of him playing ball with his mom.

...But given the government’s constant monitoring of its populace, that means the government is watching us watching Fei watching his younger self watching a recording of a memory of him playing ball with his mom.

But then you factor in the extraterrestrial observation scouting unit planning its invasion of Earth and that would make it aliens are watching the government watching us watching Fei watching his younger self watching a recording of a memory of him playing ball with his mom.

But then THE LORD sees all. So it’s really God watching the aliens watching the government watching us watching Fei watching his younger self watching a recording of a memory of him playing ball with his mom.

B-but then you factor in that God is just a figment of Tommy Westphall’s imagination and...where...where does that leave us?! WHERE?!
