Yu-Gi-Oh: The Sacred Cards

by Missile Waster

Part 3: The plot thickens! (now it's about as viscous as water)

Part 4: The plot thickens! (now it's about as viscous as water)

Welcome back folks! Last time we got our fifth locator card!

So let's start things off right by...umm...what the fuck am I supposed to be doing?

Ah yes of course I have to talk to the guy in Clock Town to get the pendant to show that Kafei isn't dead.

So I go to the guy but he's not talking, so I have to duel him first. Naturally I beat him and get a shitty card out of it.

It's about this card shop. It's usually okay. But if someone goes in alone with a rare card...They say he never comes out again...No one knows what's going on inside that card shop. That's what I've heard.

That's right, folks. Solomon Motou is a serial rapist Time to go bust his whole operation wide ope- oh wait, you mean the other card shop?

Well here we go, considering the fact that I have literally every card, I wonder how I'll fair going in here?

Well at least my name's getting around.

Well, good to see you know what you're talking about. I like you already.

Special show? Just for me? Man, this day keeps getting better and better!

What's with that smirk on your face?

Oh god I'm going to die aren't I.

Well I certainly do enjoy a good duel.

This ain't funny man, just let me beat you and leave in peace!

Man that's going to suck for you. Try not to bleed on my shoes, I just bought them.

Yeah I hadn't picked up on that yet.

Meet Arkana. He claims to be the master of the Dark Magician, he uses one with different artwork than Yugi's. He went insane and joined the Ghouls because his girlfriend something something anime anime and then wanted to duel Yugi to prove he is the better user of Dark magician. However, he treats his cards like shit and didn't care that his Dark Magician was going to be killed and Yugi revived it and finished him off. Now, in the anime they were chained in while glowing buzzsaws came towards them, if the buzzsaw touched them their mind would be sent to the Shadow Realm. Yep, typical anime bullshit. In the manga it would cut their legs off. Naturally Yugi wins and gets the key to his restraints, while Arkana revealed he hid a key in his sleeve just in case. However, Marik takes control of his mind with his Millennium Rod and basically makes it so Arkana can't see the key. It exists, he just can't feel it or see it. Yugi goes over and unlocks his restraints to save him, then Marik takes over his body to tell Yugi that he'll lose or something and then kills Arkana anyway (or sends his mind to the Shadow Realm depending on what medium you are viewing from).

This may seem like Overkill (because it is) but whatever.

Here's that alternate art Dark Magician I mentioned. In the anime, it was more of a maroon color than Yugi's, and had gray messy looking hair and looked slightly older.

Now, because "cutscene PersonMN" is not the same as "player-controlled PersonMN" I can't just let him die. The player character goes over and rescues him.

This happens several times, Marik will control someone with his Millennium Rod and tell us that he'll beat us and get the Egyptian Gods. Yeah sure Marik whatever helps you sleep at night.

He kills Arkana and I leave.

So now let's go to the other card shop just to make sure I wasn't right about Yugi's grandpa.

I, too, am a duelist. The regular customers here, they are all very strong. If I buy some cards, perhaps I will become strong also.

This is Namu. He was introduced as a random guy Joey meets in Battle City who is a duelist, but isn't good. He watches Joey duel and somehow that makes him better? He basically becomes what Tristan and Tea are at that point; a background character who talks for some reason.

His eyes are purple though, I like him already!

Now, the game doesn't tell you, but we've opened up two new areas.

The Bridge

And;

Mehuyael posted:

Maybe the building is actually a place called The Building.

Inside we find Joey.

Yo, PersonMN. What are you doing here?

>Dueling

Oh, yeah. Hanging in, huh? So, how many cards did you get? What? You've collected that many already? Uh-oh, I'm lagging then. I shouldn't be wasting my time here. I'd better go find some duel partners in a hurry. Hey, I'm outta here. Go for it!

And he leaves. We can duel people here for money and upgraded Duel Capacity, but there's no point for me to do it.

To the bridge!

We walk in on Seto in the middle of a duel.

Worms...Get out of my sight!

He has his Blue Eyes White Dragon rape the other poor duelist.

Humph...Not even token resistance. Pathetic.

He then turns to PersonMN.

You...You're Yugi's sidekick.

Really, he's more like my sidekick. I could beat him up and down the block all day if I wanted to.

Listen. You tell Yugi this. I'll accept your challenge anytime. Got it? There's no need to wait for the Tournament finals. Tell him the next time we meet will be his end. Hahahahaha!

He leaves, I head around the bend to the right only to get "surprised" by the mime from earlier!

This is his "my turn" text, again, the Ghouls "my turn" text is usually pretty cool.

The mime is never given a name. And he isn't really a mime either. He's more like a marionette doll, which Marik controls from afar. In the anime, his deck includes Infinite Cards (continuous spell which allows all players to have an unlimited number of cards in their hands) and a lot of Jam monsters, namely Revival Jam. He also has Slifer the Sky Dragon, but he doesn't have it in this duel in the game. Yugi wins by forcing Slifer into a loop of constantly attacking Revival Jam, and every time a monster is destroyed the marionette has to draw 3 cards (due to a spell the marionette used to attempt to make Slifer unstoppable) until the marionette decked-out, losing the duel and forfeiting Slifer to Yugi. He is then dropped in the middle of the ditch and never seen again ever.

I got a shitload of Domino from this fight, and also this card:

If not for that ridiculous cost, this would be really useful against my next opponent (if I were playing normally that is).

Yeah I know.

Again, I know.

And yet you still lose. What does that say about you?

The marionette collapses and we run before the cops show up.

New area opened up, gee I wonder who we'll be dueling here?

Mako Tsunami beats Joey right as we show up using The Legendary Fisherman.

Darn it! I can't win!

Grr...That guy's deck is pretty darn strong. I can't find his weak points. Hey, how do you think I'd be able to win?

Thunder type monsters obviously.

So now we'll just duel Mako and we-

We have to duel everyone in the area first. Yeah.

I go south one screen and duel this chick who's with her boyfriend.

As you can see, we're introduced to another new land type, Umi, the water field. As you can see, 7 Colored Fish is powered up significantly.

While Jinzo is powered down significantly.

This a few times (there's 4 people to duel before Mako, counting Joey).

Out of all of the cards we got, the only ones which could be considered "good" have a ridiculous cost and would therefore be useless since you wouldn't have enough room in your deck anyways.

Seriously, look at this shit I got from Joey;

Pretty good, level 4 1500 attack points, 183 cost god damn.

Well, now that we've dueled everyone here and shown that we're good enough;

We get to duel Mako Tsunami!

He was introduced in the Duelist Kingdom as a guy Yugi and friends bump into. They eat his food and try to leave and he makes Yugi duel him. Yugi swiftly kicks his ass and he is never heard from again. That is, until Battle City where he shows up as Joey's third and final opponent. He used the Umi card to create an all-water field to help conceal a lot of his monsters and to power them up (including The Legendary Fisherman). Another card he used was Torrential Tribute which in the real game is a pretty fucking awesome card. Joey eventually wins and gets The Legendary Fisherman and the last few locator cards he needed to advance to the finals. Note that The Legendary Fisherman is basically worthless in Joey's deck, but whatever.

It's mine now. In the real game it has an effect that I don't remember, in this game it's not very good since it doesn't have it. Level 5 1850? The cost is pretty reasonable though, if you can keep something as weak as the stuff you would have at this point in the game on the field long enough for the tribute.

Unfortunately once you hit the finals the duels become such bullshit that this card is even more useless, as no one in the finals is weak against Water monsters.

Anyways, we got our 6th and final locator card! Now we're eligible for the finals! Join me next time where we'll go hang out at Yugi's grandpa's card shop and piss about before the finals start.
