Speed Up a Clip with VirtualDub
By balldunk
OK here's how to do a speed up in virtualdub while keeping audio and video synced. Really you should do this in avisynth instead because with virtualdub you have to split the video up and encode it in bits then put it all together and it's a huge pain in the ass. Don't do it this way unless you know exactly what you want and you're not just being a lazy ass.
Don't do it in WMM no matter what god damn WMM sucks so bad never use it.
Step 1. Video
First open up your clip and go video -> frame rate. In this example my source video is 30 fps and I wanted to speed it up 5 times, so I selected (in red) Change frame rate to 150. 150 = 30 * 5.
Then I selected Convert to fps: 30 (in green). You almost certainly want this so that you can append your files together, since they'll need to have the same format. And having a 150 fps video lying around is just asking for trouble.
Step 2. Audio
Next, go to the audio menu. First check "Full processing mode". Then check "Use advanced filtering". Then open up the Filters... window.
Go to "Add", and add an Input. Then do the same and add a Stretch. Hit Configure on the stretch, and enter the correct rate. In my case I want 0.2 because 0.2 = 1/5. If you're doing things 10 times faster you'll want 0.1, etc.
Finally add an Output. It should look like this.
If so, you can save out the video just fine. Now go do this properly in avisynth in like one or two easy lines.
