Well, we managed to eat something, and punch something, now for trying to climb everything.

quote:

>search reservoir
You find nothing of interest.

>x reservoir
You see nothing special about the stream.

>drink water
(the stream)
You have taken a drink from the stream. The water tastes strongly of minerals, but is not unpleasant. It is extremely cold.

>take shower
You can't see any such thing.

>bathe
That's not a verb I recognise.

>climb into hole
You can't see any such thing.

>u
You can't go that way.

>n
You can't go that way.

>enter river
That's not something you can enter.

>swim
The water is icy cold, and you would soon freeze to death.

Kind of putting the kibosh on our exploration plans here.

We're a wizard!

(Which won't actually work any more and "wizard" mode in the original solely deals with settings that are basically specific to the PDP-11 version.)

I had planned to talk about this at some point; I suppose this is as good a time as any.

What Xenoveritas is referring to here is an administrative mode that existed in the original PDP-11 version. It was a timesharing machine, so out of consideration for the available processing cycles, an administrator was able to set certain hours of operation for the game. If someone logged in outside of those hours, they would receive a message indicating that the game was unavailable or, if the settings indicated it, would be permitted to play a very brief demonstration game. In order to enter this mode, you have to make yourself a "wizard" by entering certain secret words. A wizard could also play the game during the unavailable hours, set a brief message of the day, and tweak a couple of minor options.

This mode never survived into the personal computer ports, for obvious reasons.
