“Crockett, the Bowman is painting you,” Ho He’s Clan passenger announced. To Iskander Vassiliev her strangely-accented voice sounded pained. As if accentuating her passenger’s urgency, the still-distant Banshee fired its autocannon square into the enemy heavy’s leg as if trying to knock it off balance.

His craggy face locked into a grimace lined as heavily as the bark of a tree, Iskander dropped his crosshairs over the enemy machine. All it would take was one good hit and with an injured leg the ‘Bowman’ had lost its maneuverability. Iskander’s thumb stabbed down on the trigger launching a distracting spread of SRMs as the enemy `Mech launched a barrage of missiles and lasers at Yan company’s last remaining Po.

Iskander let loose a breath he hadn’t realized he’d been holding and squeezed the primary trigger. His autocannon coughed once and the enemy `Mech lurched as its cockpit shattered. Moving more slowly than the autocannon shell, one of his SRMs completed a lazy spiral and passed through the jagged mess that had been the Clanner’s windscreen. The enemy `Mech toppled lazily backwards, a gout of smoke from its torso the first inkling of a SRM hit. With a burst of fire, a huge missile burst harmlessly from the Bowman’s chest.

A twinkling red light from a tiny barrel beneath the launcher blinded Iskander’s right eye for a brief instant as it passed up his `Mech as the exploding Bowman fell.
