These Inner Sphere did know how to die.

That was the thought that preoccupied Kiren Ravenwater as she slowly brought her slab-beaked Wolf Spider forward. Water boiled at her `Mech’s feet as an enemy Phoenix Hawk tried to burn the last protection from her leg before she entered. “Not today, little freebir--freeborn,” she admonished like an angry drill instructor. As if to prove her point she leveled her deadly shoulder-mounted autocannon and blew off the dome-shaped head of one of the Phoenix Hawk’s companions.

As it crumpled, she stood transfixed for a moment as the Archer charged. A sane pilot would have surrendered, true, but from what she gathered the honor of these ‘Death Commandos’ was at stake. She had no idea what these other Inner Sphere warriors had done to affront it so, but these were warriors she would be proud to call allies.

The Archer’s half-molten body trundled forward like a furious one-armed Gorilla, limb raised high to club at its attackers. Its boxy, familiar shape had softened into something unrecognizable. Muscles and skeleton both gleamed in direct sunlight, the former with pink coolant dripping from damaged feeds; the latter with the angry red heat of the foundry. The Archer collapsed at the feet of its attackers, body warping under its own diminished weight as it came to its final rest.

These Death Commandos may have been stricken from their own honor roll, but this pilot at least had just won himself a place in the Rememberance of Clan Hell’s Horses. Or would, Kiren amended, if she herself survived to tell the tale.
