Piet’s Banshee was dying.

It didn’t take a genius to realize it which, fortunately, she wasn’t. It didn’t take a technician either, which was also fortunate. Piet would’ve killed anyone who disparaged her so. Even a civilian bystander would have known the Banshee was in trouble, its ferro-titanium bones still glowed an angry red through what thin scraps of armor still clung to them. Even the `Mech’s computer knew it was doomed, alternating critical warnings and depressing diagnostic figures with an imperative that the pilot attempt to eject.

Piet ignored it, reaching across the confined space to pull the chipset that controlled her ride’s automatic ejection system. Just another critical warning for the computer to slowly scroll through. Her hands settled on the controls, her eyes focused on the world beyond her heads-up display. Her lips pressed together in a grim smile. There were still enemies on the field, and she would kill them all.

It was going to be glorious.
