“I’m on the ground,” Vasquez announced, “her” deep falsetto voice and stocky figure not matching the slender woman who would be crawling into and out of the Banshee’s cockpit on the silver screen. Hogarth was a firm believer in verisimilitude however, and only the battlefield reactions of a real `Mechwarrior would do. Anything else could be edited in post, but the `Mech combat had to look real and sound real and from Hogarth’s experience no studio sound-booth could replicate the sounds of a pilot fighting for his or her life.

“I’m down too. That’s the last of us,” Hogarth replied, pressing the button that would trigger the release of his own massive parachute. He twisted his Atlas in place, bringing the barrel of his arm-mounted “rotary autocannon” up to speed in a menacing fashion. “Major Steiner, Colonel Schultz, you’re our scouts. Get those light `Mechs of yours in gear, I want the enemy’s forces found pronto!”

“Enemy contact, bearing two-zero-zero,” Schultz announced a moment later as he let fly with his long-range armament.

“Confirmed,” Vasquez replied sourly. Without any remorse she let loose with her PPCs. Her target, a distant and unprepared Javelin staggered as her PPC scoured the armor from its left torso. It staggered backwards, its massive foot toppling a cart of fruit and sending the out-of-place vendor careening into a pile of cardboard boxes. Luck was with it, however, as neither of those extremely volatile objects burst into flames or exploded.
