Lights flickered and pulsed as Hogarth’s Heroes unleashed the full fury of their close-range weaponry against the distant Behemoth. Medium lasers flickered and pulsed even though none of them could reach that far. Vasquez’s Banshee shook as it fired the tiny, eye-like small laser mounted in the center of its head, as though it intended to kill the Behemoth with a mean look.

“How can we be missing?!” Vasquez’s basso voice rumbled, “it’s twenty meters tall!”

“It’s no good, we’re not penetrating his ghost zone!” Andrew read incredulously as he fired one of his PPCs over the distant Behemoth’s head. He dropped his crosshairs squarely over the distant Behemoth, tracking it carefully with his left arm even as both of his belly-mounted PPCs missed the distant `Mech by a dozen meters or more. “Even our heavy firepower isn’t penetrating!”

His next, careful shot caught the Behemoth square in the “chest,” marring the thin plastic of the fake torso with a nasty, obvious burn.

“Nice shot, Andrew!” Hogarth congratulated enthusiastically; before his tone changed from that of his movie persona to that of his director persona, “but you weren’t supposed to hit it yet. Check your goddamned fire!”

A halo of black-powder explosions wreathed the distant Behemoth in flame and shrapnel as Schultz’s LRMs struck home. “You must have weakened his defenses for a moment, allowing some of my missiles through!” The older actor announced off-script, “and our hits seem to have disrupted Cameron’s control of his possessed minions!”

“I told you we can win this,” Hogarth improvised with a scowl. “Just a little more pressure, and this ghost will crack--no matter how powerful he is!”
