Fynn lurched to his feet, the Griffin’s reactions sluggish as its gyros struggled to bring the machine upright. The machine staggered like a drunkard but quickly recovered as Fynn brought it up to speed. The Cronus passed, and he twisted bringing his left arm in line with its rear armor to—Fynn cursed. In his hurry to get up and moving he’d run too far, none of his weapons could draw a bead on the Cronus.

The enemy `Mech simply watched, torso twisting as he’d passed—but it too held its fire. Perhaps it was in the same boat, or perhaps the pilot was unusually chivalrous. Either way, Fynn wasn’t going to take the opportunity his enemy had offered him for granted. He’d take this one out, and secure whatever remained of the Capellan dropship. Provided they didn’t have any other nasty surprises waiting for him.

Cy panted in silence, sweat trickling down the back of his neck. Although the Caesar ran cool, the ambient temperature in the cockpit had skyrocketed to uncomfortable levels as he continued to fire every weapon in his arsenal against the slippery Cicada. He’d have to score a good hit on it soon, or abandon the field. The little bastard just kept interposing itself between Cy and his line of escape.

“Just die already,” he panted, exasperated. He could barely make the Cicada out, through the trees it was just a series of angular shadows lurking at the very edges of his perception. But he could still see it, and so he could still shoot it. He wondered if the enemy pilot was running scared? He doubted it, but one never knew. That damned Cicada was far too good at running away, and Cy didn’t want to have to deal with it again.
