Part 350: Mech Design Contest 3: Vote

`Mech Design Contest 3: Specialists! Vote!

Due to the length of some of the entries, we won’t be seeing their whole fluff pieces. I will be posting one sentence from each design.

As usual, a reminder of the Voting rules!

Three winners will be chosen by the thread.
A fourth and fifth final winner will be chosen by me (due to the small number of valid entries, I’ll only be choosing one winner).

Also, due to the large number of disqualified entries, we are also voting for a Best Disqualified `Mech. It won’t get used, but this was a tricky contest so they do deserve a little recognition.

Contest Entries

Atlas AS8-TH

“A Draconis Suns vehicle hunter, specialized in murdering the utter living crap out of vehicles”

Axman AXM-1HG

“First amongst the problems was that the new Heavy Gauss was even bulkier than the Autocannon it replaced, forcing the designers to further offset the engine block to one side of the torso to compensate for the size and weight of the massive weapon.”

Crab CRB-27AA

“Brilliance!”

Firestarter FS9-APC

“The Firestarter IFV carries a full platoon of Jump Infantry, which can be deployed rapidly from the massive top hatches in its three squad-sized bays.”

Griffin GRF-1N-N

“To counteract these advantages, and to capitalize the aggressiveness seen in most Clan commanders, the Sea Griffin is designed to engage in and around water and hopefully bait the enemies' superior battlemechs into an environment where their missiles and autocannons are useless and their armor can be breached by any number of lucky hits.”

Helepolis HEP-4R

No Fluff

Hoplite HOP-4NS

“A company-level C3 'Mech for teh (sic) Duchy of New Syrtis.”

Hunchback HBK-4GH

“I took one of the Hunchback 4-G's from the SSW list that was within the current time frame and then monkeyed around with it until I was able to get jump jets and a hatchet fitted into it.”

Hunchback HBK-4II

“Put simply, this mech is designed to hunt down and out maneuver Clan Light BattleMechs”

Hunchback HBK-5HS

“Built from designs dating back to the fall of the Star League but never put into production, the Hunchback 5Hs was designed to be an urban assault and defense `mech capable of minimizing collateral damage.”

Kintaro KTO-2NW

“By using its speed and mobility, the -2NW can maneuver itself into position (ideally behind an enemy ‘mech) while charging up its PPC.”

Ostscout OTT-9R

“The Rim Worlds Republic was not keen on losing the electronic warfare advantage it had maintained after the Helm Memory Core was shared amongst the Successor States, thus the OTT-9R Ostscout was born.”

Quickdraw QKD-5A-SDV

No Fluff, red paintjob and head spike not included

Schrek Field Bistro

“Rather than hold out and hope they could sell the expensive tanks to another buyer,
Aldis decided to go into the restaurant business.”

Spider SDR-5K-T

“While "incredibly fun to pilot," the Spider SDR-5K-T quickly earned the nickname "Danger Zone" from its passengers, who noted the highly explosive ammunition bins, break-neck speeds, and the recklessness of its pilots to be more than slightly disconcerting.”

Talos TLS-2F

“Using the obsolete TLS-1B as a base, the TLS-2F is designed to chase down lighter foes and take them apart with it's snub-nose PPC.”

Trebuchet TBT-3CS

“The Lyrans, it was rumored, made up some hokey thing about fist-fighting with robots being an ancient Steiner battle tradition. If they could get the Clans to buy that, then could they get the Clans to accept a challenge to physical combat against a WarShip?”

UrbanMech UMR-62

“The Captain-General's opinion of the design was reportedly mixed, but an enthusiastic reception by some of the more ruthless officials of the Duchy of Andurien have ensured that the design has begun to trickle into garrison forces where the potential for popular uprisings has been deemed unacceptably high.”

Vindicator VND-5R

“Sometimes no amount of mustache twirling and sleeping with murder cults can keep those lazy servitors in line.”

Thermal Rescue Ignii

"Designed primarily to assist in the rescue and recovery of pilots trapped in overheating mechs during training, the Thermal Rescue Ignis has a variety of features originally intended for roles in the training environment."

Disqualified Entries

Fafnir FNR-2B

Flea FLE-22
