The machine’s torso had been reduced to the smoke-blackened ruin of its engine compartment. Heat shimmered from the heat-sink studded chamber but the sturdy metal man refused to fall.

“The book-makers aren’t going to be happy about that,” Rex continued, laughing like a madwoman. “I’m told the odds of a Shadow Hawk outlasting any member of the Death’s Consorts was slim, so I hope you remembered to call your bookie before this fight started. Assuming they weren’t just kicked in by Redjack’s men, anyway! This is such a great day for a battle, I think we may even strafe The Ocho’s offices on our way home!”
