Retaking Sirdar Update 4

“Scout down,” Lt. Lancelot Patterson announced as a Pegasus hovercraft coasted to a stop. It’d gotten a shot off, showering Corporal Daniels’ Watchman with SRMs and scoring an angry orange line across the medium `Mech’s left breast. The Watchman was a reliable machine, rugged and easy for a new or inexperienced pilot to master, but it wasn’t a powerhouse. Lancelot brought his Orion a little closer, backing up the younger pilot in an effort to draw some attention himself.

He didn’t dare zoom too closely on the tank he’d crippled, he knew precisely what the splash of red on the inside of the driver’s canopy meant. Unlike `Mechs, even little tanks were often full of people—and those people were the most vulnerable of their components. One bad hit, an SRM exploding in the wrong place or at the wrong time, and every man and woman aboard would be killed before they could blink. And Lancelot’s Orion carried a lot of SRMs.

“’Nother scout crippled,” Fungi again. His Scarabus was quick and its pilot was crazy enough to dodge trees rather than slowing down for them. There wasn’t much any tank could do to resist a blow from the Scarabus’s hatchet. “It ain’t dead but it’s so wrecked up a bump in the road’s likely to take `em out. They’ll be running home to mama for sure.”

“Let them withdraw, then,” Lancelot ordered. “Find something that’s still shooting back and take it out.”

“Roger that,” Fungi laughed. “If I take out this enemy Stalker next, can I keep it?”
