Snow would’ve been disturbed if he’d been in a position to see Rain’s insane grin. She also wouldn’t have cared one whit for his discomfort. The ex-Lohengrin, ex-Loki operative simply bracketed the statue of Duke Aldo Lestrade III in her crosshairs and let the loud ‘crack’ of her medium laser show the Duke her displeasure. The grandiose and overwrought marble statue simply exploded as her medium laser flash-heated the water locked within the stone.

“Excellent—they would’ve heard that shot all the way to the Palace,” the Voice said. The Voice was all that mattered—she’d been conditioned to obey the Voice without thought or question; and had been discarded when a sudden crisis of… not conscience, but memory had kept her from murdering Colonel Morgan Kell—who, for a brief instant, had reminded her of the father she’d lost so long ago. He’d saved her—nearly adopted her—and grieved when she’d rejected his offer to join the Kell Hounds. The Lyran Commonwealth needed her, and she could not let the Commonwealth down.

“Expect their light elements and patrols to investigate first. Your new objective is to make this raid look convincing. Cause at least sixty-three million nine-hundred thousand Kroner in property damage to Industrial or Commercial buildings; or to the Enemy.”

She nodded silently, watched the two loyalist Stingers on thermals. Magscan was nearly useless in a city like Tharkad, and Thermals were almost as bad. There was so much background noise that only the bright corona of the Stingers’ jump jets revealed them clearly.

Her grin widened. She had a new Voice now, and the voice said those Stingers had to die.
