Part 840: The Ballad of Engine Joe

Posting this in anticipation of victory:

The Ballad of Engine Joe

Now gather round young jocks and techs,
and listen close to me.
I'll tell you all a tale of woe,
a hero of memory.

Joe Runnin' Wild was a giant man,
stood eight foot one I swear.
With great big arms and hands to match,
and a chest like a bear.

He worked all day and drank all night,
a wrench in that big 'ol mitt.
To keep the mechs walkin' straight,
and put-up with the newbies' shit.

A Caballero gave 'im a name
to put him in his place.
But big Joe just said "Engine, huh?"
and punched him in the face.

Engine Joooeee \ oh Engine Joooeee,
you've fouuught \ your final foooeee.
We will siiiing \ this song of woooeee,
and thiiink \ of Engine Joooeee.

It wasn't fame and wasn't glory
that Joe desired most.
To settle down and raise a child
was all Joe wished to boast.

In twenty years and three more since,
Joe tinkered and Joe fought.
But at last he came to the Oriente
and found the peace he sought.

Joe didn't take a wife and build
a house to raise a son.
Joe saw what peace was best and it
was the peace of another one.

For on the day Joe battled last
he rode straight into danger.
Not for himself or for his get,
for the babe of a stranger.

Engine Joooeee \ oh Engine Joooeee,
the sooons \ you'll never knooow.
We driiink \ till daybreak glooows,
and thiiink \ of Engine Joooeee.

Joe's 'Pult was rocked with fire and flame
and light and shell and shot.
But he took it all and gave it back,
his rockets' streak white hot.

Down low was brought the Cat so dire
and crippled was the 'Jack.
Foul Goblin seemed to cower in fear,
till the Hammer did strike back.

A bolt of blue bright as the sun
hit Joe's mech cross the jaw,
still he fought like death himself
to save that child and ma.

The rocket fired was straight and true,
with vengeance in it's eye.
It struck the Hammer in the arm,
and off the piece did fly.

Engine Joooeee \ oh Engine Joooeee,
you've deeaalt \ your dying blooow.
We will laauugh \ and weep and crooow,
and thiiink \ of Engine Joooeee.

Twas the final blow Joe was to land
for not did any see,
the sneaking rats with thoughts of death
til Joe shouts "Infantry!"

Like snakes in grass they had hid
till crept up close to Joe,
and let off a flight of red hell
to cook our great hero.

His mech on fire, his armor cracked,
the smokey cockpit aglow;
Joe still fought on through dust and ash
til his namesake brought him low.

For the engine in Joe's 'Pult was hot,
it's motion stalled and dead.
He could not jump or dodge the shot;
It hit him in the head.

Engine Joooeee \ oh Engine Joooeee,
please saaay \ it aint sooo.
We will leeet \ cerveza flooow,
and thiiink \ of Engine Joooeee.

The battle over,
the bastards run.
Joe's at rest,
his duty done.

Engine Joooeee \ oh Engine Joooeee,
you've fouuught \ your final foooeee.
We will siiiing \ this song of woooeee,
and thiiink \ of Engine Joooeee.
