Beyond Chaos EX: Final Fantasy 6 Randomizer

by Admiral Joeslop

Part 13: Insert Title Here

Welcome one and all to this, the 13th update.

Previously, we unleashed the (Phantom) beast(s) from the Research Facility, which gave Saber enough time to come to terms with what they are.

We also found some new Espers, and an old party member to equip them on!

Of these, a handful of spells are useful. Dispel, Osmose, Haste 2, and Rasp. Pearl is nice but I have it as a regular command already. Dispel can be used on an enemy to get rid of any positive magical effects. Osmose will drain a large chunk of MP from the enemy and usually completely refill whoever cast it. Haste 2 just makes everyone faster and Rasp will drain a decent amount of MP without giving it to anyone. If I get desperate, I can use it to kill something that Dies At 0 MP which I can't otherwise hurt. Warp actually is useful to escape battles and dungeons but I have a bunch of Warp Stones anyway (after this dungeon, at least).

This is our party for this chunk, replacing Pipimi with Saber. They has all those wonderful dances!

Onward, grand steed!

Our first stop is Narshe. Everyone has a brief wordless meeting and then we go try to lockpick that last chest in the treasure room. Except there is a wolf! Oh no!

Unhand that monkey!

Fuck the monkey, gimme that.

YOINK!

Ribbons are great. They block the following status effects: Dark, Zombie, Poison, Imp, Petrify, Mute, Berserk, Muddle, Seizure, and Sleep. Notably, this does NOT include the follow statuses: Clear, Doom, Image, Condemned, Slow, Stop or Freeze.

They're not actually something you might want to have on all the time. They can be very handy for certain fights to completely neuter an opponent.

Hop skip and a jump to the Cave of the Sealed Gate.

I just noticed I forgot to document these monsters from the Magitek Facility. The only notable things are their Morphs. BehemothSuits are fantastic and while Gold Hairpins are good, they're much less useful in BC and especially with dancingmaduin. Actual magic users that don't have another useful ability are fairly rare.

I hate puzzles that are just time wasters. I also hate these colors.

Memento Ring does still have Death protection! That evade negative is garbage. Even still, a Memento Ring or Safety Bit in a perma death run is one of the best pieces of gear you can get.

If you're in a real tight pickle, you could in theory have your Rager use this skill and confuse them, so they cast reraise on your own party. I'm having a hard time thinking of a more convulated way of doing so.

The dudes with scythes are the Usua, the flyer is Bewatis. This formation is so special they get the FF7 battle music. So special, in fact, that the Bewatis's only actual skill is Escape which ends the battle immediately. Shine on, Bewatis.

These bears have Auto Confuse status but also immunity to Confuse. Lucky for them, I guess?

I don't understand why so many things in this seed have -10% evade. Everything else is pretty nice.

This son of a bitch was hiding behind the switch that normally drop bears a Ninja onto your head. If it wasn't weak to Pearl this would be a terrible fight. Absolute 0 is murderous and you can't run away. Sleep on attack is super annoying but it also has Auto Blind so who cares.

Vanilla and boring.

Thunder Blade is 13 Bat. Pwr. lower and Rune Edge is 3 points higher. Neither of them are any good unless I find something weak to Thunder.

We did it! Great job everyone!

It wasn't until this playthrough that I realized there was a door here. Usually I just Warp or Warp Stone out. This door takes you to the first screen of the dungeon.

Here is the haul of stuff from the rest of the chests:

24,100 Gold
X-potion x2
Ether
Remedy
Elixir
Tempest
Atma Weapon

God dammit!

The Emperor feels super guilty about everything and invites us to dinner. Even Cid, with his shitty green pajamas, is invited.

But first, we have to convince the soldiers of a fascist empire that they're wrong and should help us instead.

Can you spot Shadow in this shot?

Next time, we explore a brand new continent!
