Dark Sun: Wake of the Ravager

by Spermy Smurf

Part 18

Using the instruction I got from the flakey guy I head down a level in the elevator.

YOUR KING HAS ARRIVED PEASANTS

A winch thing, a series of tubes, and some holes where miners had dug is all. It's much smaller than the map shows, maybe 2 screens across.

I'd like to see you try to toss me aside you Christopher Robins looking motherfucker.

What the hell is going on?

The half giants aren't scared, but Christopher Robins crew is running like Rabbit.

I tell them I'm here to investigate and they need to let me pass.

The half-giants go back to work.

I don't care what you say. I don't see any exits so tell me how to get around down here please.

Well that's pretty neat. Also very condescending. Now I just need to find a whistle.

He tells me the Master Switchman is a mythical man who can fix anything. He is located deep in the mines.

This thing that the mouse is on is the whistle. I called it, and the ore cart showed up just above me.

It brings me somewhere.

Dead silence from some miners.

Chat from others...

Can I ride this?

I go to Hourglass section. Nothing here.

However, Rattlenook farms is neat.

This person sells magic mushrooms to miners. They also grow poison ones to deter thieves. The price of a mushroom is one piece of good wood.

Instead I talk him into accepting coins.

I forget to set the switch to a lower level, so the cart brings me back to the beginning where I stumble upon something nefarious.

I find a place, kind of a central hub sorta. I can access anywhere from here, plus the Switchmaster is here.

The dig boss is talky.

There is no secret vein. I've already seen dead miners, so I know it's not that.

A hole leads to the Switchmaster.

That door is shut despite my best efforts.

But I can talk through this tube thing.

There are a lot of places, but only 2 have any importance. I've visited them all (I think) so I ask about somewhere I've never been.

Western railhead. Got it.

Down to Lockout, and Down again. Got it.

Just go away, you're embarassing yourself.

This guy is illegally mining barehanded. Hardcore mode.

I offer him some cash to get through till payday, but he doesn't want charity.

Well I've got a dozen picks in my inventory, I can solve this conundrum.

Turns out I can't. I am unable to give him one, and unable to get the conversation to say "Give him a pick?"

I flip the switch next to him and head toward Lockout.

Heading to lockout.

So I see there is nothing here. Great. Well worth my time.

This is basically where I will rest up before going further I assume. I can't do anything yet, so I head back up to try and figure out what the fuck I am supposed to do. I need to advance the plot, but I have no idea how to do that.

Everywhere I go people are dead.

Oh shit I found a clue! I head back to the Switchmaster to see maybe trigger whatever needs to happen next.

Oh snap, he is on the case! He gives me great info and then I have to figure out where any of these places are. I haven't seen any of those, other than "the surface."

12 minutes of no screenshots while I wander aimlessly.

The Gaunt has this winch thing in one section.

From Gaunt to Stumbledowns.

That looks like an elevator. Like the elevator the Switchmaster just told me about that leads to the surface.

No one runs the winch, I just assume it's magic.

I arrive at the starting location and find 4 miners in gray that are waiting to kill me. Wait, what?

KILL THEM BEFORE THEY KILL ME OR ESCAPE TO THE SURFACE!

Oh no not these stupid things. 1 damage from everyone except Jameson. Jameson will be this encounters MVP apparently.

I was too late to save everyone. I wish I had known what was going on, probably would have gotten some XP for saving people.

Wahoo! Too bad dualwielding is way better than any single weapon in the game.

I figure this guy triggered the last plot hook so I go visit him again. Secret door? There wasn't anything a minute ago. Down I go I guess?

I arrive at Old Dig and sure enough there's 3 Mindflayers. I murder two of them while one runs for reinforcements.

We're going downtown boys and girls!
