Let’s rewind all the way back to Chapter 71, and see how differently things can go…

Bonus Video: Tom Has a Bad Day

(Tom) Good heavens, Dragon Knight! He’s after me, he’ll kill me!
(Yara)Tom? Who? What’s going on?
It’s Taurus, sent by the General. Please stop him!
General Augustus? What?

(Taurus) Ha! I’ve got you now, you slippery coward! You may skitter like a rabbit with its tail on fire, but you can’t outrun the fox!
Then feast away, Mister Fox, and leave me one of his feet for luck!
Its charm will come too late, stranger: witnesses to this execution are quite unwelcome. The General values discretion, you see, and your being here presents a pleasant coincidence: I think I’ll make this whole affair look like a murder-suicide pact.

(Tom) Good heavens, finally he is dead. For a moment there I thought you wanted to leave me to perish by that maniac’s sword, but you came through for me in the end.
Because I had do. And now I must take my leave.
No, please hear me out! Her life depends on it! Anne is her name and she is to be the next victim of General Luxurius, the greatest pervert in all of Aleroth. Good heavens, he is a monster, a… a vampire I say, who snatches away each girl his unending lust drives him to possess. Some return with blank, evasive eyes, flushed cheeks and trembling hands laden with the gold that bought their silence. And some, some don’t return at all. Now he has my Anne and there is nothing I can do about it!
Why is that?
I don’t dare! Luxurius is a mighty General, he has his own guard of Champions… to challenge them… it would be suicide!
I can handle the guards. Taurus mentioned proof of your death. Perhaps I can use that to talk my way in.
What? You’d cut off my finger? Please, no! There must be another way!
(-15000 XP) Good heavens, Taurus was right: I am a coward. The love of my life is in mortal danger, but still I dare not try to save her!

You NEED to mind-read Tom here to discover his cowardice, if you want to get the bad ending. Let’s start the new branch by cutting off Tom’s finger!

Loving is suffering. If you want me to free your girl I’m going to need that finger.
Divine give me courage! Do it quickly! Now before I have the time to think!
*slice*
Aaaahh!! Damned One’s dumpings that smarts! My home is in the upper city. I’ll wait for you there. May the Gods grant you, you can save my poor Anne from Luxurius’ clutches!

Taurus’ house is unlocked, but the trap door to the sewers in his house is locked and can’t be opened. We can now enter Luxurius’ House directly.

(Alvaro) You there! Who are you to walk into the home of General Luxurius unannounced?
(-7500 XP) There is dark delight in this house… It would be entertaining to find out what it is.
I was wondering if you could spare some time to talk about the Divine. I brought pamphlets!
Good Lord, I told you people to stay away! This time I’ll send you straight to that holy fob you incessantly dote on!
Hold on, I was merely joking! I have rid the world of that Tom chap and I’m here to claim my reward.
So you beat Taurus to that weasel Tom, did you? Good work! Come and I’ll take you to the General.

He has a pretty little damsel with him, you know. Maybe he’ll even let you have a taste! Hahaha!

You can talk to the other guards, but you have to wait for Alvar to walk up to the top floor.

(Margarito) Another day, another girl. What a life Luxurius leads.
(Tacio) Honoured to meet you, Dragon Knight! Maybe we can share a bottle later and swap war stories.
(Paterno) Go up the stairs and take the door to your left. That’s where you’ll find the General’s… private quarters.
(Alvaro) Go on, Dragon Knight! Don’t keep the General waiting!

(Luxurius) Hmmm… And so, my dear Anne, at last I come to you.

(Anne) No, please! Let me go and I swear from the bottom of my heart I won’t tell a soul!

(Luxurius) It’s too late for that now, dear. You will be mine!
No! No! Somebody help! Divine save me!
Hush now dear, can’t you see we have a visitor?

Going in the front door changes Luxurius’ reaction and delays the combat. (There’s no way to avoid Luxurius going hostile.)

Now then, what have we here? The Dragon Knight who closed the rifts, if I’m not mistaken. As you can see, I was about to have my hands full: so please state your business quickly.
I killed the girl’s boyfriend and I have this ring to prove it.
And the finger you kept for displaying purposes? Queer. Doesn’t matter.

Did I mention that as it turns out you didn’t need to cut off Tom’s finger, you only needed his ring? AND THE DRAGON KNIGHT KNEW THAT. That’s rubbing salt in the stump there. There’s no way to get the ring only, it’s either the finger, ring and all, or the sewer entrance.

Doesn’t matter. You did what Taurus was ordered to do, so now you’ll receive his reward.
No! Not my Tom! How could you?
I told you to hush, dear! Don’t make me break out the cane! Now, that reward I was talking about. Follow me.

The finger is the only way to get this chest unlocked, but it only contains random loot. Whoopie. Not a big loss if you skip it, there’s another random chest in the sewers that you can’t get on this path.

Here you go, the contents of this chest are yours. Now leave me!
Great, now I’ll just take these and-
Right, where were we, my dear Anne? I believe I was about to introduce you to... but… why the devil are you still here?
I like to watch.
Out of the question, you insolent brat! I think I’ll discipline you before I discipline her!

You don’t get the chance to take the contents of the chest and leave, so there’s always a fight. Let’s skip over that.

You have freed me from this hell only to deliver me unto another. Why did you kill Tom, you wretch?
Because he was a coward and I hate cowards.
How dare you? And what was the poor man supposed to do? Luxurius would have hung him like a pig in a butcher’s shop! You saved me from a terrible destiny, but I cannot give you my gratitude. In fact, I hope you’ll end up on a troll’s roasting spit!
I see you have more spirit than your lover. Fear not, he still breathes.
Divine be praised, he lives! You really had me going there, Dragon Knight! I shall return to my lover’s house and try to forget about the horrid fate that might have befallen me. Please do visit us should you find the time so we can reward you like a hero should be!

Accepting the quest reward happens like usual, although I should see if that happens if you drive Anne off.

(Tom) Good heavens, my love is safe! I cannot thank you enough.
You can, my friend, you can!
Hahaha! Yes, too bad I had to lose my finger. But Anne is worth a piece of me. Please accept this gold. May you prosper by it!
“Beauty and the Beast” complete! Quest Reward: 6211 XP, 1300 Gold, Skill Book. Bonus Chosen: 3105 XP, Random earrings (+2 Wisdom, +10 intelligence.)

I bid you a warm welcome, Dragon Knight! Our house is your house.
How have you been holding up, Anne?
Oh, I’m fine! I still shudder at the thought of that dungeon and its, well, purpose and paraphernalia. But what worries me more is how a villain like that could live in Aleroth without anybody knowing or caring about it!
You and me both. If both I and Aleroth survive the current crisis, I’ll be keeping a close eye on the city.
Imagine what other monsters might stalk these streets! I mean: what’s next? Zonked zombies out for boozers’ brains? Honestly, what is Rivellon coming to?
(-22500 XP) My father Richard wants me to marry a valiant man, a Champion! But Tom is… is valiant in his own right, isn’t he?

Let’s go filch Richard’s letter. Because we mind-read Tom, we can now get the worst ending. Mind-reading Anne gives us an extra choice on the worst-ending path. This is something you deliberately have to do, you can’t accidentally stumble onto this

Between you and me, Anne, I think that sissy suitor of yours is all wrong for you.
What? I know he is far from courageous, but… he’s sweet and loving!
Loving? You’d have served as Luxurius’s doll of debauchery of it weren’t for me! He didn’t move a finger to save you.
But… I… Surely Tom must have tried at least. He did give up his finger.

No, I can see the pity in your eyes. I was taken and he ran! Thanks for making me see reason, Dragon Knight. I think I have a relationship to end!

Tom, the cat is out of the bag. I’m out of here!
Cat? But what are you talking about my little pussycat?
And stop calling me that! That bastard of a Luxurius used part of that word enough to scar me for life! And what were you doing all the while? Cowering in a corner? Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to find me a real man! Goodbye!

She left me! I hired someone to free her from the General’s clutches and still she left me!
I think your mistake lay in the ‘hiring’ part.
But… but they would have killed me! Good heavens, what use would I have been to her dead?
(-22500 XP)

MUAHAHA!

Bonus: Tom Has a Bad Day

You get no reward for that deliberate cruelty save this achievement.

(Alvaro) You there! Who are you to walk into the home of General Luxurius unannounced?
Doesn’t really matter who I am. But I’m going to kill him if you need to know.
Ha! Bring out the butterfly nets, boys. We’ve got a rare species to pin on the wall!

(Alvaro) You there! Who are you to walk into the home of General Luxurius unannounced?
See this finger and matching ring? I believe your master would be interested in having it brought to him.

I was wondering if you could spare some time to talk about the Divine. I brought pamphlets!
Good Lord, I told you people to stay away! This time I’ll send you straight to that holy fob you incessantly dote on!
What blasphemy! Draw, sir, draw!

It makes no difference if you fought the guards downstairs or not for this scene.

Now then, what have we here? The Dragon Knight who closed the rifts, if I’m not mistaken. As you can see, I was about to have my hands full: so please state your business quickly.
I came here on behalf of Tom to free this woman. And I’m going to enjoy brutally killing you.
I think not, Dragon! I do not know what your quarrel is with me, but a good brawl will get the blood flowing and pumping, and Divine knows I want it!

Right, where were we, my dear Anne? I believe I was about to introduce you to... but… why the devil are you still here?
Gold is good, but still I’m going to divorce your body from your soul...
If in fact you have a soul.
My soul is not among the things I tend to… divorce from my body, Dragon. Come on then! Let’s get this over with!
