This is the book of the unnamed wizard that contains the wind spell.
(Yara) This should work… maybe.
You speak the spell and within moments the wind has died down.

This time the candles stayed lit.

“Candles in the Wind” complete! Quest Reward: 1800 XP, 500 Gold. Bonuses Chosen: 800 XP.

(???) The candles burn once more and at long last my spirit soars again.
I think a little introduction is in order.

(Sassan) I am Sassan, the one time reluctant concubine of Laiken – until he needed my blood to advance his schemes.
This is Laiken’s ex-girlfriend?
A powerful spell was required to access the abandoned tower, sealed as it was by Maxos’ magic. ‘The blood of a loved one’. I can still hear him say it. Ha! That monster never loved anything but death.
(-200 XP) At last! Hope for salvation!
Is it possible I met your evil twin a while back?
No! She is an abomination, a ghoulish duplicate, pieced together from different corpses.
He certainly cheaped out on the tongue, that’s for sure. Funny, I figured he’d want a high-quality one on his toy.
Laiken’s tastes are… peculiar. Even before he killed me he manufactured that thing to satisfy his frigid soulless appetites.
I need to enter the Battle Tower. Can you tell me how this can be done?
Of course: it can’t. No, the only way in is to draw Laiken out: and for you he won’t budge. I’m confident though that my appearance would rattle his twisted brain like nothing has before.
And it’s as simple as that, is it?
Not quite, no. There is one other matter. I am bound to this grave, but bring me back to life and I’ll accompany you.
Of course, raising the dead is no problem. Shall I walk across the water to get you some fresh baked bread from Broken Valley while I’m at it?
All I need is my ring, which I hope is still in Laiken’s old study here on the island. Say ‘demise’ and enter.
Your ring? … I hate to break it to you, but you’re dead. How will bringing your ring help?
This island… it pulses with Dragon magic. With that power, Laiken forged an enchanted ring, using molten malachite, and a single drop of my blood. Dragon Magic is the wellspring of creation… the ring has the power to restore me to life.
I would think that would be something you would have kept on you at all times, but maybe that’s just me. I’ll go try and find it for you.

The Second Coming
This fetch quest is short but surprisingly dangerous.

I made up that last but of dialogue because the game doesn’t offer any explanations at all for why Sassan’s perfectly ordinary-seeming ring brings her back to life.

As you approach the door, the skull asks you for Laiken’s motto.
“Demise”.
A metallic clicking sound heralds the unlocking of the door.

Make sure to save before going in.

Laiken’s study. Charming.

Letter from Laiken to an unknown recipient.

In this dusty booklet, Laiken describes the research he did in order to break the magical seal on the Battle Tower door to obtain entry. He seems to have made use of the same Orbis Arcesso you used to defeat Amdusias. Having to kill Sassan made him feel ‘slightly bothered’, but his undead copy design quickly alleviated his apprehension – such as it was.

It certainly looks ordinary.

Bellegar’s Theme

(Undead Sassan) So you met my spectre sister, squire? But Sassan shan’t be resurrected!
(-200 XP) Mayhaps I’ll see her living again myself and make her a piecemeal puppet as well.
So we meet again! Laiken’s bit of undead rumpy-pumpy and I!
Hush! Do not sneer at our passion! But I shall waste words on you no longer! Slay the Slayer, my soldiers! Strike the Maxos slave down!

Uh-oh, my creature’s locked inside.

This fight is unpleasant. There are only three enemies, but even being level 19 isn’t enough to guarantee my safety. I died on my first attempt. Granted, that was because I cast a Healing spell when I was at almost dead instead of drinking a potion, but those who rely on keeping their distance from their foes like rangers and mages will have a harder time in this cramped space you’re locked into. No room to dodge, nowhere to run.

The Abomination Master (the tough dangerous one) drops a key. It’s for the chest back in the study which can’t be lockpicked. Inside is…

This is the Act III Mage set, obviously. It can be one of the trickiest ones to complete.

Mardaneus was from Divine Divinity, and he wore simple robes and carried a staff. He also died during that game, in a place which is very hard to reach, so it’s a bit odd that his body was retrieved. Not to mention that after he died, that was about the time when all hell literally broke loose, so I would have thought Zandalor would have been busier with other matters than funeral arrangements. He’s the only one who could have brought Mardaneus’s body back.

Sentinel Island

Have you brought me my ring?
Your undead copy tried to stop me, but here it is.
My ring! Oh, to live again!
“The Second Coming” complete! Quest Rewards: 3000 XP, 850 Gold. Bonus Chosen: 1500 XP, 425 Gold.

(Sassan) I… I feel warm again! My heart beats, my voice is strong! I live! You have granted me a kindness beyond all comparison and I shall not fail you! Come, let us head for the tower and lure the beast from its lair!
Thought you’d never ask. Let’s go!

Our next task is to breach the Battle Tower itself.

Sassan will be our companion for the rest of the Act and beyond. She’s invulnerable, so don’t worry about her getting killed or even knocked out, but like most NPC’s she probably won’t do that much damage.

Excerpt from “As the sun headed toward the horizon on Sentinel Island, the Dragon Knight and Sassan approached the barrier to the tower, not knowing that the situation elsewhere was quickly deteriorating.

Video: The moment that changed Everything

Damian returned inside, to where his generals were gathered. Raze, Kali, Keara, Stone, even the demon Ba’al.

“Our troops stand ready, Lord.”

Damian said nothing. They waited patiently. It had been a long time since the Black Ring armies had tasted blood. They could wait a few more minutes.

Perhaps things could have been different once… but it is too late for that now.

Damian looked at them with his cold, pupilless eyes. He said one word.

“Begin.”

Yara’s Current Auras

On second thought, since this is Chapter XXX, I’m glad that I didn’t title it “The Second Coming”.

Of course: it can’t. No, the only way in is to draw Laiken out: and for you he won’t budge. I’m confident though that my appearance would rattle his twisted brain like nothing has before.
Sounds like a plan! Off we go!
I like your enthusiasm, but first there is another problem that needs to be dealt with. I am bound to this grave, but bring me back to life and I’ll accompany you.

(Undead Sassan) So you met my spectre sister, squire? But Sassan shan’t be resurrected!
Oh, but she will. And no ten-piece jigsaw puzzle is going to stop me.
Silence! You don’t understand my subtle grace! But I shall waste words on you no longer! Slay the Slayer, my soldiers! Strike the Maxos slave down!
