Dragon Quest Monsters: Caravan Hearts

by MaskedHuzzah

Part 9: Dungeoneering and boss-fighting!

I went with a compromise between the two because I also wanted to show how to abuse money in addition to the new guys.

(Kiefer) Let's get back in that cave and find the key!

(Ann) The Droll is an on again and off again monster from the length of the series - he gets status and support magic. He's basically a bug The Clay Man is newer, but no new skills or anything on him other than Vivify, which can bring a monster back to life. But the important part here is the Metal Slime. Huge defense, crazy agility, next to no HP, and worth more than 10 times the XP of anyone else in the dungeon

(Raider) The Snaily has kept a pretty solid spell set throughout the entire series - Ice Bolt, Upper, and NumbOff (which removes the Numb/Paralyzed status, which is hella annoying).

There's a treasure chest down each of these little alcoves - good treasure!

This will be very useful - Healers learn one of the most vital skills in the game - HealUs, which heals the entire party for a good amount.

We need to reform Slalon now - he can't improve further.

Hurrah! Back to the Gate of Laura to see about the Barbaru person... illusion... thingie.

(Kachua) Oh, hey! DragonKids! They can learn the Firebreath of their older iterations, as well as SweetBreath and Elude (which helps them avoid attacks).

Sweeeeeeeeeeet. We have to kick Alissa off the wagon for now, but Slalon going metal makes it all worth it.

I see you have the key... Does this mean you defeated my monster there?
No, we went another way. We befriended him then challenged him to a tickle fight, which we won handily. OF COURSE WE KILLED HIM!
That monster gave its life to find me a strong opponent. Hm. I feel it. You have the power of an Orb of Loto.
(Luin) That's us!
Shut up, Luin. We're already going on a quest and bringing you along, so just keep quiet.
(Barbaru) Oh, so you're the one that Kakalon was talking about. I am Barbaru, the Illusion. If you want the Orb of Loto that I hold... Come at me with all you've got! So, will you? You want to start a fight?
Sweet! This is much easier than steak procurement!
I hate to say this, but I'm ridiculously powerful.
Actually, I think you're just powerfully ridiculous.
(Slalon) Oh snap!
Compared to the monsters around here, I'm no laughing matter. Are you prepared to face me in battle?
Easily!
Excellent! Don't disappoint me! Show me that you want this Orb of Loto!

All kidding aside, Barbaru's pretty badass looking. His minions are pretty buff as well. He's got a lot of HP and hits pretty hard as well, and has the ability to counter attacks. But despite a couple of close calls...

That was interesting! Humans and monsters together aren't bad! A promise is a promise. The Orb of Loto is yours. This is the Sword of Loto. It is the power to vanquish your enemies.
Enemy-vanquishing power? I think we're pretty good for that.
The Sword of Loto already completed its mission. Still, its power is here. You can take it. This is the Orb of Power.
That's two out of four now!
Power is not simply used to destroy. Think well about how it can be used. If you pass through here, you can reach the next continent. You should go. I need to take a little rest.
