Part 41: The Elder Updates XL - Just a Bit of Progress

Last time, we decided to get Sterv off his ass to drag Martin back to Weynon Priory so we could make a little progress within the main quest. Let's see how they're doing.

...um.

Yeah, they'll be fine.

Just a Bit of Progress

Shortly...

Hold on. Tell me what happened.
I don't know! I think they're right behind me! Prior Maborel is dead!
Who are the attackers?
I was in the sheepfold when they attacked.
Is THAT what you call it.

...I heard the Prior talking to someone. Looked around the corner to see who it was. They looked like travellers, ordinary.

Mmm, yes. Bound weaponry. Where is Jauffre?
I don't know. In the chapel praying, I think. You must help us!

I think this constitutes an emergency.

There. That should even the odds a bit.

Oh hey, this happened. Our Light Armor doesn't really weigh that much, but having a few more pounds available is nice.

Good daedra.

He is in the Chapel, allegedly.
Quick! He may need our help!
Right. Let's go.

Hmm. I think they've got that one well in hand. Guess that leaves the one on the left to...

...me?

They attacked without warning. I was prayingin the Chapel when I heard Prior Maborel shout. I had just time to arm myself.
Good that you did, but it is over now. Khajiit has seen to this.
The Amulet of Kings! I fear that was the target of the attack.

I kept it in a secret room in Weynon House. We need to go see if it is safe.

Gee, how about that.

I DID find Martin.
So it has not all gone against us. Thank Talos for that! We gained Uriel's heir, and lost the Amulet of Kings.
Seems like a wash.
Martin cannot stay here. We have driven them off, but they will be back once they learn of Martin's survival. Which they will.
Khajiit trusts you know someplace safe?
Nowhere is truly safe against the power arrayed against us. But we must play for time, at least...

We should leave at once.

And so we did. Fuckall happened.

Ultimately we reach our destination, which is just a stone's throw from Bruma.

Yes, Cyrus. This is the Emperor's son, Martin Septim.

Ah, well, thank you! The honor is mine.
Come. Your Blades are waiting.

Here, Martin gives a speech along the lines of "wow thank you, not sure I'm comfortable with being the Emperor though". I couldn't be bothered to transcribe it, but I don't think Sterv cared much for it either.

They're probably just happy to know the bloodline is not lost.
The Blades saluting me and hailing me as Martin Septim...I don't mean to sound ungrateful. I know I would be dead by know if it weren't for you. Thank you.
Khajiit doubts this, but you are welcome.
But everyone expects me to suddenly know what to do. How to behave.

Let us just worry about the Amulet.
Of course. The Amulet of Kings. So we...I...can take it to the Temple of the One and light the Dragonfires. And stop the Oblivion invasion.
And then you can be Emperor.
The Emperor...that's an idea that will take some getting used to. In any case, we need the Amulet first. Maybe Jauffre will know where to start.

You know, I've never heard of Oblivion gates before.
Something has changed to make these stable portals to Oblivion possible.
Clearly.
Jauffre believes that the death of the Emperor and the darkening of the Dragonfires is the key.
This one is inclined to agree.
All practitioners of daedric magic are familiar with the almost impenetrable barrier between our world and Oblivion. What the Emperor told you implies that the Amulet is the key to the preservation of that barrier.

(Everything you know...?)
Yet those gates to Oblivion existed. The old rules no longer apply. Kvatch is only the beginning of what Mehrunes Dagon will do.
I shudder to think.
If the Amulet is truly the key to restoring the barriers between our world and Oblivion, you must waste no time in recovering it.
You seem to know a lot about daedric magic.
I haven't always been a priest. In my youth, I followed a different path. I know more than I want to about the seductive power of daedric magic. Let's just leave it at that.
Khajiit is not judging. This may yet be an asset, no?

I should probably speak to Jauffre now.

As the Grandmaster of the Blades, I would be honored to accept you into our order. Will you join us?
Certainly.
As far as I'm aware, there's no real reason to join the Blades. It's not required for any quests or even continuing the story. It might make it easier to mooch stuff from Cloud Ruler Temple, but that's about it. We get a free Akaviri Katana, but it kinda sucks.

It is my honor to welcome you into our ranks as a Knight Brother of the Blades.
Ceremony aside, we should really see to the matter of the Amulet.
You're right. We must try to recover the Amulet before the enemy takes it out of our reach. You should go back to the Imperial City. Baurus may have learned something about the assassins.
Any idea where he may be?
You'll find Baurus at Luther Broad's Boarding House in the Elven Gardens district of the Imperial City.
...that is very precise. I will go find Baurus now.

But first...

Welcome to the Blades, Sterv!
Sorry if this update was a bit short, but rest assired the next couple of updates...are going to be a real doozy.
