Part 8: To someone else it's West Mountain.

Chapter 7: To someone else it's West Mountain.

So, the town is south of the Ship Graveyard. Get some gil if you need it.

The enemies are all variations on "Attack until I'm dead."

Except for this harmless elephant. Steal a Maiden's Kiss and let him run away. You get 1 ABP but no EXP.

Anyway, let's ransack another town!

Skeleton
Carcruthl
Mindflusher
Undead Husk
Siren
Siren

66% of the Ship Graveyard's enemies are undead. There are four of us, so at least one of us is not a ghost by probability.

Finally, an inn not 5 inches away from free healing. Go to sleep a blind frog on the verge of death, wake up perfectly fine!

Level 2 Magic! Strangely, this shop only offers 1 black (Sleep) and 2 white spells of the level. Protect is awesome and reduces physical damage done, while status spells are useless unless noted otherwise.

Long Swords are pretty kickass, man.

Leather stuff is odd in that it is universal. Most equipment comes in three castes:

Heavy Armor can only be used by a few knightly warriors like, well, knights. Heavy armor offers high defense, but is very heavy and doesn't give much magic defense or stat boosts.

Light Armor, like that copper cuirass, doesn't give the raw defense of Heavy Armor, but is lighter and often have boosts to vigor or speed. Monks, Thieves, and Blue Mages are our current Light Armor classes.

Clothes, like the Cotton Robes slightly offscreen, offer low defense, but good magic defense at almost no weight. Clothes eventually give nice fat magic boosts. Mages can equip Clothes.

Wow, why'd I go into that one?

Piano #2.

Best text in the game.

Thanks to Faris' thief vision for finding the passage to free money.

That sucks.

We must stop it! How can we get to Walse?
Walse is across the ocean. It's a quick trip by ship, but since the wind slowed, there aren't any ships sailing...
Hrn... haven't got Slydra, either...

Faris- I'm sorry.
Burtz, have you any ideas?
No ships, so we can't go by sea...

Okay, enough banter. Time to pick up my favorite free item in the game.

A free Frost Rod. Hot damn I love these things. They increase damage of their element (in this case, Ice) and have one other trick I'll show you later.

Anyway, I think some guy I didn't bother talking to mentioned that there's a dragon on North Mountain. Since it's the only place one can get to that one hasn't already been to, I think it's the obvious destination.

So North Mountain has this cloud effect which is meant to convey ascent. I really don't care for it much.

North Mountain's enemies include flying cats, giant slugs...

Even more slugs, some rocks who try to cast a spell they can't. You can steal some accessory from the rocks I've never seen elsewhere. It doesn't do anything worth caring about, though.

I think these things can petrify you, but they die too quickly for me to be sure.

These purple flowers poison the whole party if stepped on.

Yeah, it is kinda arbitrary.

A save point? I'm guessing a boss fight is coming up. I've played this game like 12 times so I know everything by heart so Let's approach cautiously...

...uh, Lenna...

Well, that sucks.

Lenna!

Now the rocks fell so we can't get to her.

I came after that wind drake, but it seems like I've caught something even more valuable.
Wait... You'd hunt a wind drake?
Of course. Their horns catch a high price on the black market, ohohoho!
And I see I've caught no less than the princess of Tycoon! Yes, you'll make a lovely souvenir for my husband.
Let her go, you addle-pated foul-complexioned scofflaw!

Whoops, the rocks fell.

Whoops, Faris fell.

Faris!
Oops, I guess he slipped. Pity.
What?!

Turns out Faris can climb sheer cliffs.

And has a rope.

BOSS FIGHT: MAGISSA AND FORZA!

Magissa casts first level magic on assorted targets. Not really dangerous. Lenna starts this battle poisoned.

Until she calls her husband Forza. She casts defensive spells on Forza, complicating his demise unless you take her out first, as pictured.

Without Magissa, all Forza does is hit a single target for somewhat troublesome but manageable damage.

He's a hardy motherfucker, but 850 HP only lasts so long.

The two drop items none of our current classes can use.

You actually get King Tycoon's helmet, which is a wonderful Mythril Helmet.

Anyway, the peak is near so...

He's hurt pretty bad...
Hiryu... Don't worry, I'll take care of you.

Lenna then heads up to some poison flowers to regain the poison I just cured.
A strange herb lies beyond them...

Don't come any closer! I will be fine. Just...must reach the dragon grass...

Lenna obtains the herb, despite the poison.

Give the dragon grass to Hiryu... Quickly...

Faris gives the herb to the dragon as Lenna collapses.

Please, get well...

Hiryu cheers the fuck up.

My stars and garters! You're out of your gourd, young lady-that was insanely reckless!

He also cures Lenna's poisoning somehow.

Hiryu...thank you!
Looks like you're both hale and hearty again! Let's saddle up!
...Actually, I, uh... I don't really like heights...

You're face, kiddo! Anyway, get on!

Hiryu soars to the skies...

...Yet he is incapable of flying over the mountain he just soared from.

NEXT TIME: Visiting places! Annoying people in castles!
