Part 14: Explosions

Chapter 12: Explosions

Hasn't broke yet. Whew.

We won't let you touch the crystal, werewolf!
Stand down. I am not your enemy!
I'm not so sure about that!

You know me? Ughhh... Can't remember a thing... Who in blazes am I, anyway...

Who's that guy?

Great, an agent of evil ruins the best laid plans.

Oh shit!

It'll be a cold, dry, stagnant world, but at least the mountains will be pretty.

Go! once the crystal shatters, the whole room will go up in flames! Get out of here, and protect the last crystal with your lives!
Werewolf!
We have to help him!

Whoops, hole in the ground.

Galuf, you're our only hope...

The crystal explodes, and werewolf gets set on fire...

The crystal must've lost its power...

Where's the werewolf?
He probably got trapped in the fire... couldn't get out...
We have to hurry!

Hold up-so now that the crystal's gone, the castle's gonna blow!?
Exactly! We've no time to lose!

Welcome to the escape from Karnak. Time counts down even when you're in menus and in battle, so swift victory and skillful maneuvering are needed.

Of course, you could get out in about 2 or 3 minutes. Why all the time? Looting the treasures that used to be blocked by fire, of course!

It's not that simple, though, as some of the chests contain mean ol' monsters.

Gigi cast Aera, the -ra level wind spell. If I wasn't in a castle that was about to explode violently, I'd try and get it here. However, it's available in again in a moment, so there's no need to risk exploding. You can steal Elixirs from the bastards if that's your bag.

Yeah, a Ribbon.

Most of the trapped chests contain Elixirs.

However, way out of the way to the exit...

...are two special chests, one on the left and right sides of the castle.

Rod count: 4

Another cape. I love these things.

A 36-power knife with a blocking effect similar to but separate from the Elf Mantle. I love this knife.

Remember this chest?

A forced encounter outside introduces you to the most agonizingly long conversation.

Keep in mind, I have the battle text speed near max. I feel sorry for those with it slower.

BOSS FIGHT: IRON CLAW

Iron Claw casts Death Claw, an awesome Blue magic that reduces the target to single digit HP and paralyzes them.

With Lenna clawed, Galuf punches the shit out of Iron Claw.

I skipped some treasures, only more gil and elixirs. The four important treasures I got smoothly.

And with that, the castle explodes as Lenna predicted.

Crystal shards, being made of macguffium, don't get exploded.

Well, controlling enemies can get you some Blue magics easy.

Some dungeons have trap doors and damage floors, and Geomancers protect from both.

Ninjas are awesome on two legs.

Ninjas can throw shit for buckets of damage, they wield two weapons and deal tons of damage with both, and even get preemptive strikes by the dozens.

This guy materializes in Karnak, so you can buy Kunais which are much cooler knives than mythril daggers.

Esuna is 4th level White Magic. Faris will have to spend time away from elemental rods to cast this.

Free Flame Rod now that the random fires are gone.

Burtz is getting somewhere with his piano skills.

Well, the explosion took out the wall, and this is pretty much our only lead.

I don't know why this took me so long.

Dhorme Chimeras are mean motherfuckers.

How mean can this be?

Very mean.

Burtz can use his ninja powers to fling shirukens at lethal velocities.

Now, did you think there wasn't a purpose in getting hit like that? Aqua Breath costs an amazing 38 MP, but it deals plenty of damage to all enemies.

So here we are!

NEXT TIME: Literature kills!
