Part 15: Read a book.

Chapter 13: Read a book.

Can't go nowhere without monsters overrunning shit.

Likely, the monster-filled basement.

Free healing.

Let's check!

Clearly, it's the rightmost one.

I'll detail the pages when I'm exploiting them.

Okay, the other two are fine.

Boring puzzle that makes you run around endlessly.

Manipulating experience gains so Lenna is behind...

And Page 64 proves his use.

Level 5 Death is the first of the Level X spells. The other 3 are a lot less notable because of what pains in asses they are to get.

Remember when I mentioned that dead Blue Mages still get magic?

Here's Page 32, our man for Aera.

Takes him a week, but he finally gets Lenna with it.

I'm starting to really fill out this spell list.

Besides the blue magic, the books aren't worth fighting.

What an asshole.

We need to go this way for some reason. Look, I don't know. We do, okay?

So let's use this secret passage!

Hey, how about you help us with this bookshe

...It's always a fight.

BOSS FIGHT: IFRIT

Rods broken: 5

I don't know why there's a fire boss right after a fire boss. Ifrit doesn't have any gimmick: Just strong fire spells and an ice weakness.

Breaking a Frost Rod and casting Shiva at him was enough to deem us worthy.

The bookcase now moves out of our way.

Ninja Suit for our ninja.

Wouldntcha know it, a forced encounter!

BURN! BURN! I SEE THE EARTH!

Save point, boss coming up.

Mid?
Stay on your toes! I have a bad feeling about this place!

Oh shit, books are attacking!

BOSS FIGHT: BYBLOS

Byblos and Ifrit are bosses you can get preemptive strikes on.

Byblos has a pretty hardcore spell list. Wind Slash is just pretty mean non-elemental damage to your whole party, he can slow single targets, and casts Magic Hammer which halves MP. He automatically casts Protect on himself when hit physically and Toad on magic attackers.

Rods broken: 6

He literally absorbs all elements but fire, being a book.

Once his HP hits below 800, he just spams Drain until his 1000 MP are out. Drain costs 14.

Burtz' sublime power to set knives on fire wins the day.

He flashes twice then crumbles slowly; a fancier death for a fancier boss.

Say hi to Cid's grandson, Mid.

Don't tell me you were engrossed in that book the whole time!?
What whole time? Now that you mentioned it, I did hear some rustling behind me... Oh, was that you?
!?
...!?
You've gotta be kidding.
A strange bird, this one.
Whatever... guess it's time to go back, huh? You guys coming too? I know a shortcut.

Thank you for finding Mid!
Huh? You came to save me? I dunno what I needed saved from, but it was nice of you anyway. Oh yeah! Look at this! I found the most amazing book!

I've gotta tell Grandpa Cid right away!
Cid?
Oh, you know of him? He's my grandfather. Grandpa is so awesome! When he's researching he's unstoppable-he never gives up until he's found his solution!
Maybe that's how he was in the past, but now...
What!? He would never do that!
Wait-Mid!

Mid then charges off to Karnak.

NEXT TIME: Grandaddy issues! Immense plot bombs!
