Part 48: Totally Forked

Chapter 45: Totally Forked

Fork Tower! The completionist's nightmare.

Guess we'd better split up, then...

There's, of course, two halves. The left is magic-based, and the right is physical-based. The right side is somewhat harder as most of the ways of cheesing things available at this point rely on magic. It just so happens, though, that I have two characters focused in each magic and physicals.

Another thing to note is that you can split it 1-3 if you want. Most Single Class Challenges suggest flinging 3 dudes at your problem area.

We start off with the magic team, Lenna and Faris.

The rooms are short and choppy, leaving few chances for random encounters.

The problem is that there are plenty of enemies here, and the tower is gone once you're done. Unless you run around to get in some fights, there's going to be holes in your bestiary. I, for one, don't care.

Squaresoft sure got their money out of this tileset.

This tower is on Crescent Island. How does it have all those mountains and forests for a background?

An Ether. How adorable.

The Wonder Wand, when used as a weapon, casts a spell. Any spell. At random. I don't think anything is worth that much risk.

Now that Lenna's in position, it's time for Burtz and Krile to scale the physical side. This side enforces its gimmick by having an auto-mute effect, meaning no one can cast magic.

The physical side has the same layout. Lazy or artistic? You decide.

My love for you is like a truck...

A Hi-Potion in the spot the Ether was. How adorable.

Two on two is not a duel, guys.

I think one of them just died from confusion.

An absurdly powerful knightsword with the main gauche's blocking effect.

Damn, they're yelling loud.

Of course, what would a dungeon be without boss fights?

BOSS FIGHT: MINOTAUR

Guarding Holy is Minotaur. As he's the physical boss, all he does is spam heavy attacks.

Also, whatever you do, don't equip the Excalibur or Holy Lance! Since he guards Holy, he absorbs the Holy element. Sucks that two of your best weapons are just sorta negated.

His criticals hurt...

But !Rapidfire hurts worse. With only 19850 HP he runs out fast.

However, when he runs out of HP...

He unleashes the power of the magic he guards!

Normally in response to something like this, I'd say "Make sure you have as much HP as possible." but...

Minotaur has 0 MP.

A slugfest, through and through.

Quick, Lenna says. This next guy doesn't like quick.

BOSS FIGHT: OMNISCIENT

Omniscient responds to every physical attack with Return, restarting the whole fight.

He also has a downright bizarre assortment of spells.

Reflect mostly neuters him, unless he gets Reflect on himself, then he bounces spells like proper.

Oh, hey, let's see his stats!

I wanted a smiley to put here, but nothing would encompass how fucking dead this guy is. He is fucking DEAD.

Reflecting Aerogas off of only two characters does the same as a regular Aeroga, but it looks cooler.

LAPRAS used THUNDERBOLT!

It's super-effective!

Omniscient doesn't say anything before casting Flare.

Probably for the best, as it usually ends up in his own face.

Oh no! How will we escape this trea-

Oh, all it does is harmlessly drops you on the world map. Huh. I guess we better see Cid and Mid again.

NEXT TIME:
Cid and Mid TALKSTRAVAGANZA!
